Nice little beach. The same as all the waukesha beaches, they are very strict. There are mandatory breaks every few hours for 20 minutes. No floaties allowed, and I'm pretty sure every few minutes a lifeguard has to use a bullhorn to correct a child who either is piggybacking or tosses a rock. That takes me to my next point- the rocks. Ouch. It us a fully covered rock bottom lake. It is very uncomfortable as you walk out to the deeper end, which at its deepest is around 3.5 feet. No real deep end. There is a very nice shower area with private showers, which you will really appreciate as you try to get all the seaweed and lake muck out of your nether regions. Yes, seaweed. But its only about 6 inches long from being trimmed by passing motor boats speeding by, and splashes into the swimming area pretty consistantly. The beach and picnic area are nice with some shady spots. The play area is nice. The parking situation is horrendous if you are in a car. You must park in the car parking lot and take a long walk through buggy woods downhill to get there. There is plenty of boat trailer parking right next to the beach for boat launching though. At the end of the day, you then, lucky swimmer, get to drag wet towels, a cooler, exhausted kids and whatever else back through the buggy woods, uphill to the parking lot. There is also no cafe here, unlike the other swimming holes. It's nice enough, and the price is right. I'm really struggling with the right rating. The parking and lack of deeper water area, plus sharp rocks make it hard...
Read moreMy family has gone camping every year, twice a year for 30 years. Gradually the group camp sites have degraded. This year, I arrived to find trash in site 5, the fire pit beyond full of ash, and two dead pine trees standing in the site with a plethora of dead trees along the perimeter. Much of the parks money goes towards the beach and soccer fields which, to their credit, are very nice. That being said, the rangers are always very kind and the outhouses stay fairly clean. The park is not beyond redemption, but it needs some love this fall to bring it back up to snuff. It's a perfect park for the Milwaukee family who wants a break into nature, even though the grocery store is a mile away. But for my family, it's time to move to a more remote site.
TLDR: Worth a trip for the beach. Group camps need love but are alright. Price does not...
Read moreHuge park with a $5 entrance fee! They are in correspondance to the Waukesha County Park System, so it includes a lodge, legacy forest trail, and more. There is a public boat launch on the Southeast end of Lake Nagawaukee, but it's not incredible large or anything. Be wary of the times you visit! Also, there are campsites, but I'm not sure what the fees are. They are modest sites that I believe supply electric/water, and most seem like they have some sort of inground/steel framed campfire. There is plenty of wildlife as well! White-tailed deer, small and large birds, and of course small mammals such as squirrels and chipmunks. There are multiple trails inside of the park as well that wind through the forest and around the campsites. I'd suggest trying out the camping here, it seems like a beautiful place to visit...
