The Strand is my BF's favorite place for brunch in Orlando...and now I know why. My first time here was on a late Saturday morning on what was a cooler than normal January weekend. We were warmly greeted at the door and seated at a half booth/half seat two person table. For seating, there's also a larger communal table and counter seats.
When I sat down I was attracted to the sign over top of the bar that says the restaurant was conceived "with the purpose of becoming an everyday tradition in the larger fabric of Orlando." The restaurant combines shabby chic with minimalist attitudes. The large window at the front of the restaurant looks out onto the bustling Mills Avenue.
The menu is a concise list of contemporary interpretations of classic bistro fare. Dishes are inspired by ingredients sourced from local farms and seasonal produce. For brunch, libations include mimosas, beer and wine.
If you enjoy coffee, order the French press. Great for sharing with your dining partner. As for libations, the BF ordered a craft beer and myself, a mimosa which was the perfect balance of sweet and bubbly.
Now if there's an egg that generates true excitement deep in my little foodie spirit it's a soft yolk, creamy poached egg. And The Strand's avocado toast does not disappoint. The presentation was beautiful and made it almost too hard to eat. The sourdough is the perfect foundation for the avocado/egg. We also split sides of sausage and bacon which were packed with so much flavor, making it clear that it was from a small farm.
From start to finish, our server was super friendly and attentive but not one bit overbearing.
The Strand is an unpretentious American Bistro in the Mills50 neighborhood. Do a few things and do them really well - that is what they succeeded at during my first visit here. I look forward to returning to The Strand and trying some of their...
Read moreCompletely refurbished and updated, all the previously mentioned issues are taken care of. It has a very nice decor, I would say it's nicer then more large theaters, there are a few minor things, but you have to look close. It's got new chairs in all viewing areas, remodeled, new bathrooms, nice sitting areas. Yet it maintains the small & intimate feel it had. Best place to watch all movies. Also check out the photos on the walls, they show the state the building was in when they started and yet look like purchased photography. You wouldn't know they are from the same building, that in itself should highlight the improvements.
(--Original reviews below--) Nice theater for the price, Very cheap, fairly clean considering it's a VERY old building, Needs some work here and there (some seats need fixed, trim, mostly cosmetics UPDATE: Main theater now has all new chairs!). Not the nicest place, but I go here to watch most movies, only for big blockbusters will I go to the "big" theater. The owners are always expanding and fixing things up, but it will take time. If you want an average movie watching experience for a great price this...
Read moreMovie was good. I like the old fashioned type theater. Customer service was lacking. Just a few rude kids working. We were in the last row. Nobody around to disturb by being on my phone. I pulled my phone out for 2 seconds, enough to click on an app, heard someone very close to my ear “get off your phone!” I turned around and said what? Again very rudely, “get off your phone!” I understand not disturbing people by being on your phone in a movie. And I understand not pirating the movie. None of the sort was happening. If you need to tell someone to get off their phone, you can do so much nicer. Don’t talk to them like they’re a child. “Excuse me sir, could you please put your phone away so you don’t disturb anyone else? Thank you.” Would’ve been much more polite than some entitled kid getting in my ear, “get off your phone!!” Relax dude, you work in a...
