Went to this restaurant after seeing it was a darling on Yelp. Sadly, very disappointed with the service and food quality. After several calls to see if the manager/owner would speak with me to help me understand what went wrong. The manager/owner just ignored me for over a week.
The bad dinner started with an online take-out order a week ago. Website says 30-40 mins for the food to be ready so after putting the order in at 6:30, we grabbed the food at 7:00. By the time we sat down to eat at 7:05 over $60 worth of food at home, it was all cold. Cold food seemed likely since while I waited to speak to the hostess taking someone's order, she ended it by saying it'd be ready in 15-20 minutes. If only someone bothered to update their website...
Of the 5 dishes we ordered, only 1 was really all that good tasting too with the sauce and combination of foods. That was a spring roll of some sort. The pho was good, but for the price and the fact that we had to reheat it in the microwave I'd spend my money elsewhere. House special barely tasted like it was a curry. More mild coconut milk flavor that anything. And, let me tell you a Bahn Mi with fries is pretty bad when everything is cold. Overall, pretty expensive compared to similar restaurants in the city.
Finally, after a thoroughly disappointing meal I called the restaurant up. After being placed on hold 4 times in a row only to not be picked back up, the hostess that answered. They said the manager could update the website pickup time. So, for an explanation of why this wasn't accurate, I asked to see if I could speak with a manager on duty. Hostess said he would be out for the next hour or so, took my information, and said Aaron the manager (and owner based on LinkedIN) would call me. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. So, I called again 2 hours later just as they were closing. Manager (Aaron) wasn't in again, so I gave my info and asked that he called me so I wouldn't have to write this review. I tried one more time to speak to a manager between last week and this (last Thursday) only to be told again the...
Read moreThis was my first night in Denver (visiting from Chicago) and I was craving Vietnamese food and a nice hot bowl of pho. I was really looking forward to this restaurant after reading the rave reviews and it was only 10 min away. However, inattentive staff and super sweet pho left a sour note in my book. The restaurant itself had nice decor, but seating was a bit cramped. It was also oddly cold inside. I also noticed I was like the only Asian dining at the time..this place was definitely more hipster than traditional. I should've known when there wasn't fish sauce on the table next to the sriracha and hoisin.
For the food, I had the banh xeo pork patty and Haus pho trio. Banh xeo is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes, and I was looking forward to the pork patty. However, the server must've misheard me and instead gave pork belly. Also, it came with one slice of cucumber and a couple of green leaf lettuce leaves that was more garnish than anything. I only received an herb/veggie bowl for my pho (more like basil, a couple of sliced jalapeños and sad beansprouts). The flavor of the banh xeo was decent but it lacked the must-needed herbs.
Before ordering the Haus pho, I noticed a chili next to it on the menu; when I asked the server, he stated it was "medium" in spice--now, I have a high heat tolerance, so this was mild at best. I kind of sensed it would be mild so I asked for chili oil just in case; at least the chili oil made up for that. The broth was also too sweet for my taste and I really needed fish sauce--except there was none on the table. When I asked the bus boy, he gave me a bowl of nuoc cham. Um...not the same thing, but I didn't push it because I was already full and ready for the check.
Throughout my entire time dining, other tables were checked on fairly regularly, but only when I was finished eating did my server come back to ask how everything was. In sum, I was pretty disappointed in this restaurant, but I guess my expectations were...
Read moreWe’ve had takeout from here before but live 25 mins away so while it was delicious, we didn’t get the full effect. We dined in tonight and it was absolutely amazing. 10/10. It’s probably a good thing we live farther out because I would eat here every day.
The inside is small (I counted twelve tables) but it isn’t cramped, so you’re not on top of each other. It is a little loud, but it looks like there are garage-door type windows so I bet if it’s a nice day and those are open, it wouldn’t seem so loud.
I didn’t catch our server’s name (see: loud inside) but she was great. So nice and attentive. We have two kids, and she was very accommodating about them. Gave us a knife to split up the appetizers without us asking, kept our water filled constantly, offered to get smaller bowls so we could share our pho with them, and then offered to box our food up for us. She was just wonderful.
The house pho is to die for. So delicious. Just the right amount of spice, the grilled chicken is amazing and they give you plenty of veggie toppings and offer to give you more if you need it. We also got the cream cheese wontons and the vegetable egg roll and those were also great, the kiddos even ate them and loved the crunch.
It’s worth noting that we fed our kids before coming, because our kids are typical “don’t like much outside safe foods” kiddos but even so they ate the majority of the appetizers.
I can’t recommend it enough. Come hungry because the pho will have you wanting to be rolled out because you can’t stop eating it even once...
