I was so excited to try this place for lunch today. Big mistake. The moment I walked in, the vibe was "off." Everyone was in a nasty mood. The line was long and slow. It was also on the wrong side of the aisle. In fact, a portly bald man (he worked there) walked over and aggressively and rudely told people to move to the other side because we (the customers) were disrupting folks eating. Really? How about putting up signs for a rope. This caused customers to get mad at one another and two women started talking trash to each other. They had one (1) man working the register. Not only was he required to take lunch orders, but he was also required to check-out people who were not eating. See, they sell grocery items there and we all have to wait in the same line. While I was waiting (and waiting) I observed children at a table who were placing silverware into their mouths and then their parents would place them back into the basket. Levan keeps their "clean" silverware on the tables instead of handing them out as orders are made. Totally disgusting. This is how people get sick and diseases and viruses are spread. Speaking on that subject, they had two (2) plates of brownies on the counter and I watched people literally touch the brownies and pick them up to look at them and even smell them. The kicker? They placed the now touched and contaminated brownies onto the plate. I then watched a woman purchase the same brownie and walk away with it. Not to mention, they have a prep area right next to the registers with no glass guard and one man was leaning over chatting with someone working while she prepped bread. This is NOT sanitary whatsoever. Finally, they were out of many menu items. When this happens, it makes customers feel forced to order something they were not intending on eating. It's safe to say, I will not return and I'd likely tell people about my experience so they are aware of the dumpster fire that was my visit.
Oh, and they add a 10% service fee on all tickets because they told me they need to pay their staff. Hmmm, why not start by paying your staff a living wage instead of adding it to our tabs? Why is it my responsibility when you're the employer? My lunch which consisted of two items and a cookie, plus tax, and then this outrageous 10% fee, ended up over $40. They're not better than venues charging "convenience fees" for buying tix online and then...
Read moreLeven Deli has been sending me teasers for five months about their new Wash Park location. It finally opened on January 13, 2025. I don't really get calling it "Supply" instead of "Deli." My perception was that this would be more of a market, but I don't really see much difference from the existing deli, except for the pizza oven.
My friend and I stopped in a couple of days after the opening. Business was booming with the seating area about two-thirds full and a continuous order line, although not out the door.
Most people seemed to be ordering pizza which is made with Leven's long-time sourdough starter, previously used for their excellent sourdough and rye loaves.
Even though this location looks less than half the size of the original deli and has no outdoor seating, there is a good-sized dining area facing the front windows and a large counter in the rear to line up for ordering.
The menu at Supply is somewhat broader than the deli's although Supply does not currently serve breakfast. There are eight small plates, eight pizzas, three salads, and nine sandwiches. Loaves of sourdough and rye plus baguettes are available to go.
Leven's fabulous cookies and tahini brownies are offered and there's a new tiramisu dessert option.
The space is clean, modern, and comfortable. It is much less noisy than the original deli which suffers from some acoustic issues. The wine selection is very small, but I noticed a number of interesting beers. I did not see any activity in the dry goods section.
This is a great addition to the Wash Park neighborhood. The business is located in a small shopping strip which has been heavily remodeled to a fresh, contemporary vibe. There's a good-sized parking lot which is very handy since street...
Read moreAbsolutely dumbfounded by my most recent experience at this restaurant. I used to enjoy coming here with friends and occasionally solo to work on my laptop while enjoying a snack/lunch/dinner.
Today, I was sitting at a table after purchasing a drink. The restaurant was busy, however there were 2 empty tables + 4 open chairs at the bar. Approximately 7-8 people were waiting in line to order food. A staff member approached me and asked if I would move to a bar chair, because “it was getting to be that busy time of night”. I told him no, I was in fact not interested in moving, and that I no longer felt comfortable staying at the restaurant and would be leaving.
The staff member tried to make amends by offering me a “can of beer to take home”. Although I appreciated the gesture, I think this is an absolutely ridiculous situation to put a customer in. Restaurant tables are first come first serve, and I have never been asked to move seats to make room for other customers by a member of staff at any restaurant ever.
As I write this review, I can see from outside that there are still multiple empty tables and 4+ open bar seats inside the restaurant.
I have been visiting Leven restaurant locations in Denver since they first opened, and will never return again.
Edit - After writing this review in the parking lot, I walked back in and took a few photos to show that the restaurant is in fact not full at all. The member of the staff who made this request should be reprimanded....
