The Urban Muse — Attraction in Denville

I visited the Urban Muse today after waking up stiff as a board and in extreme pain from my joint condition. We called ahead to make an appointment and the employees who answered the phone were exceptionally accommodating, especially considering it was a same-day "emergency" appointment for a lengthy service. I've never actually had a proper massage done before, only with my physical therapist, so I was nervous, especially when it comes to the potential awkwardness. I had no need to be worried- from the moment I set foot inside the building, everyone, from the employees in the boutique to the massage therapists themselves, were kind and considerate every step of the way. I ended up booked with Samantha (who knows what the heck she is doing, for all my fellow EDS-havers!) and I am so lucky to have been left in her experienced hands. She was respectful, walked me through the whole process, laughed off all my awkward moments, and made me feel like my muscles were made of, well, muscle, instead of solid rock. She even taught me something I never knew- apparently, if you are ticklish in an unexpected spot, it is often because your muscles are tight and trying to "protect" themselves while working hard! I cannot recommend her enough- if I was not moving away within the month, I would have literally figured out how to time travel just to sign up for the membership program YESTERDAY. My 2 girlfriends and I went to the Urban Muse to celebrate our birthdays. We signed up for the Ultimate De-Stress Package ($280/each). Although I found the facial by Carol to be excellent and the massage by Maggie to be very good, I felt the front desk staff to be aloof and rude.After paying, my one girlfriend realized she left her phone in the upstairs treatment room. When she went back up to retrieve it only a few minutes later, there was already someone else in the room and the staff told her she'd have to wait the 90 minutes until the next massage was over. Not quite sure why someone couldn't have interrupted for a minute, this wouldn't have been any more of an annoyance than the loud bang of the ventilation system kicking on every 10 minutes which was so loud it drowned out the sound of the music. So trying to remain relaxed we decided to go grab lunch and wait for them to call us to say they had the phone. They never called and when we called back they told us they had no idea what we were talking about. My girlfriend was now in a panic as she has a diabetic son and stays in touch frequently. When she got back to the front desk the woman told my girlfriend to stop raising her voice and that it was her own fault for leaving the phone in the room. I went recently for a Muse Massage with Sarah. I was lucky enough to win it on an Instagram contest that they hosted for Mother's Day! I always wanted to try here so I was very grateful for this opportunity and relaxing hour to myself! First impression: staff checking you in was great, friendly and highly professional! I felt like it was a very upscale environment. They had some light treats, water, tea and coffee for beforehand and several comfortable waiting areas for before and after your treatment! The shopping area had a lot of cool items! I definitely saw a lot of items that were perfect for gifts! My massage therapist Sarah was awesome, And gave me the absolute best massage I ever had!! She asked me if I had any areas that I wanted her to work on specifically before we started ( I mentioned that I'm having dental implant surgery and I have sinus issues). Not only did she massage and work on my sinus/face a bit, She also set the table to a very comfortable position for my sinuses. I'm highlighting this because I've gone to several places where they just put the table where they put it. Never have I had someone actually adjust it to my comfort level! It made it so much more relaxing . She was extremely thorough and provided a comfortable level of pressure for my entire body. She was friendly, professional and I would highly highly recommend.
