Our visit to ZooAmerica in Hershey, PA, was truly memorable, filled with exciting activities and fascinating wildlife encounters. The diverse range of exhibits and engaging displays ensured that there was never a dull moment during our trip. One of the highlights was spending time observing the playful otters. Their energetic antics and underwater acrobatics provided entertainment for visitors of all ages. The bear exhibit was equally impressive, allowing us to witness these majestic creatures up close and learn more about their natural behaviors. The wolf exhibit was a definite standout, offering a unique and captivating experience. The wolves' presence was both powerful and intriguing, providing insight into the beauty and importance of these incredible animals in the wild. The knowledgeable staff added depth to the experience, sharing interesting facts and answering questions with enthusiasm. The overall atmosphere of ZooAmerica was welcoming and family-friendly. The exhibits were well-maintained, and the cleanliness of the facilities added to the positive experience. It's evident that the staff is dedicated to the well-being of the animals and the satisfaction of visitors. Our trip to ZooAmerica was not only entertaining but also educational. The combination of wildlife observation and informative displays created a well-rounded experience. I highly recommend ZooAmerica in Hershey, PA, for anyone seeking a delightful blend of fun and learning in a beautiful setting.
Being that ZooAmerica is conjoined to Hersheypark, we had higher expectations for the amount of animals and overall experience of the zoo. We are a family who frequents zoo locations often. (Different states, cities, ect.) We love seeing the new animals and habitats set up for them. Although, ZooAmerica didn't make it to the top of our list of favorites. It is a very nice location for locals to visit. And a nice break in the chaos of rides and park frenzy for a shady walk through if you're visiting Hersheypark like we were. Animals weren't super active while we visited, but that's at no fault of the zoo, they were just enjoying their lazy day. We enjoyed the Wolves the most, but go figure I didn't capture any photos of them, since we were too busy watching them play. If you're in the area and have a bit to stop in, it's worth checking it out, but to make a trip from Pittsburgh area like we did, with high expectations, you may be a little disappointed.
My significant other and I were enjoying Hersheypark and then we suddenly noticed the Entrance to ZooAmerica. It looked both mysterious and tempting. It was complimentary, so that was hard to pass up! We crossed a bridge to get to a building, in which we went through to get outside again. It was a weird concept, but it eventually worked out. The first thing we encountered was the Southern Magnolia. It was also listed as a Magnolia Grandiflora. It seemed odd to us, but we’re from Indiana. I liked it. The Roseate Spoonbill was pink and beautiful. I wish I could have purchased one. The Southern Painted Turtle was a cool one! It was listed as Frida. The American Alligator was close and definitely looked violent. I enjoyed that exhibit. The Thick-Billed Parrot was vibrant. It seemed like it could have been friends with the Roseate Spoonbill. The Burrowing Owl was pretty. It definitely seemed calm in the display. The Blue Spiny Lizard and Gila Monster exhibit was interesting. I definitely wouldn’t want to mess with either of them! The Saguaro Cactus was a new sight to see. It almost looked awkward to be in this place, but it was awesome. The Nine-Banded Armadillo display was small and to the point. I thought it was too small, though. The Barn Owl was another pretty Owl. I enjoyed viewing it. The Red-Tailed Hawk was close to that and looked like it was up to no good. The Bobcat was a different sight. It seemed very relaxed. The Black Bear exhibit was amazing. It was so cool to admire them from afar! The American Elk seemed far away. I wish I could have seen them a bit closer. The Mountain Lion display was a must. It was nice to see one! The Snowy Owl exhibit was a great stop. I adored this beautiful owl! The White-Tailed Deer and Wild Turkey display was pretty big. The Deer were gorgeous. Each Turkey seemed to mind their business. The Bald Eagle exhibit was decent at first, but it seemed that they didn’t have enough room in there. The Peregrine Falcon display was our next stop. The Falcon sure did seem fierce. The Gray Wolf exhibit was our last stop and ended up being my favorite. They were beautiful. They deserved to be in more space. The service was okay. There weren’t many employees here it seemed. It was unfortunate to not see the animals being catered to constantly. That was my biggest turn off. Overall, I’m glad I came here to see what it was all about. I loved all of the animals that I got to see, but some needed more space in my opinion. Maybe I’ll come back someday. Date of visit: May 24, 2024
A short distance from home is a nice little Zoo, ZooAmerica, adjacent to Hershey Park. You can buy combined tickets to both, but we were going to just the Zoo, taking my senior Mom out for some sights. The Zoo, as the name implies, only has species that are found here in North America, so no zebra or tigers, lol. There are plenty of wonderful animals from North America, though, we really enjoyed the bears (even though they were napping, they were highly entertaining, from how they laid to yawning and stretching), otters, owls and mountain lions. The Zoo takes about an hour to slowly walk through, we stopped and purchased a few things in the gift shop as well. The entire Park and Zoo complex is cash free we learned today, as two of our group had "tip money" along for spending, but couldn't use. All in all a great trip for us to visit the Zoo and check out the animals. Admission pricing is Very reasonable, but appropriate as the Zoo is fairly small
We entered through hershey park, and it wasn't busy at all. It was an easy walk all the way around and took us about an hour. Would be longer for someone who likes to read all the signs and all, but with 3 boys they just like to look. It was clean and seemed well maintained. There was a good amount of animals to look at, but not overwelming that you feel rushed to look at it all. They really liked the binocular lookouts at many of the animals and could really look closely at the animals. For kids like mine that are constantly on the go, this was the perfect "mini zoo" to look at. Definitely recommend checking it out while in Hershey Park. Not sure that I'd buy tickets to just enter zoo America unless they were having a program or special exhibit or something like a close encounters type thing. Overall, we likes it and will definitely go back in when in Hershey Park again.
The overall experience be would be better if the website mentioned that parking is limited and may be full if you arrive in the morning. Overflow parking is nearby, but if I had known that ahead of time I would have gone there first. Either that or have spaces set aside for people who have Zoo membership. The website should also be updated with information like birds being kept inside due to the bird flu. I have no problem with that, but all the other zoos in the area actually mention that on their website. If you're not aware of this it just seems like they don't have many animals. I was there on a Friday in April and most of the outdoor animals were more active in the afternoon. The only animals visible in the morning were the deer, elk, otters and wolves. In the afternoon the Moubtain Lion, Bobcat was America Marten were out while the otters were napping.
