When I competed as a cross country runner in Detroit Public Schools during my high school days, we competed at Balduck Park. Running up that giant hill was so awesome to me ❤️. It took great strength and skill to conquer this hill through all types of weather. I went back today to see the place where I competed almost 40 years ago. Balduck Park brought back so many wonderful memories. The park looks wonderful! Although it's been reconstructed, my hill is still here. 😊 One can no longer see the paths that were trenched along the sides of the hill from the many footprints that ran up and down it. Encompassing the hill now is a beautiful flow of green grass. Benches are placed at the top of the hill to sit and see a beautiful view. I went back today in remembrance of that great hill. I was elated to see that with all the changes that were made to the park my hill was still there. So many changes has taken place with Detroit Public Schools since I graduated in 1988. EVERY SCHOOL that I attended is no longer; they are all demolished. To be able to come back to this place, filled my heart with great happiness, to see my hill is still here. Thank you to whomever decided not to demolish the hill. I have some type of history that I can now show my grandchildren. Today is an awesome day. My hill is an awesome hill ❤️. My eyes are feeling tears to know that all of my history...
Read moreWhat a lovely surprise! My sister and I, both life long Detroiters, had never heard of this park before. We had no idea! I love that it's huge with just about everything you'd want in a park: a baseball diamond and basketball court on one side and a football field and playground equipment on the other side. They even have a cool hill for sliding in the winter time, and a zip line on the playground side! All this plus I love that so many tall trees have been left in place in one section. And maybe the best part of all is that this enormous park is right smack in the middle of one of our Detroit neighborhoods which allows easy access without having to go a long way to get to it. And boy is it put to good use! I just had to smile seeing so many families and youth sport teams out there in the freah air. Especially in this day and age, I am loving seeing so many of our children getting fresh air and sun shine in organized activities, but also just to play. This is a jewel! The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars is because it seemed that there were too few bathroom facilities for the amount of people that this...
