Long review. Not to complain OR discredit this establishment, but to give constructive criticism for them to improve upon because it has potential.
Sexy Steak, I am not sure where to begin. As a lover of food and fine dining, We came in with such high expectations of this restaurant. Hailed as the new "it" spot in the city, this new steakhouse, unfortunately missed the mark. My friend and I saw the restaurant on social media and immediately made reservations. Upon arrival, they have a valet, $15.00. The decor and ambiance are amazing, it gives you a Miami-type vibe. When I arrived, my friend was already seated and when they directed me to the table (high-top) which was probably a 36x36; I knew this was not going to work. We'd plan on eating, remember, we are foodies. LOL The table couldn't hold the menu and a plate at the same time. We asked multiple times if we could get a booth or table but were unsuccessful as they were all reserved.
THE SERVICE: Our waitress, although kind, was inexperienced and it showed. We later found out that it was her third day serving. She wasn't knowledgeable at all of what was on the menu, or what the bar could or couldn't make and she ultimately directed us to a drink that didn't have a liqueur that we specifically requested. She later told us what we already knew but failed to offer any type of concession for the error. Due to the table being so small, they were good at getting things off our table as soon as we were finished. Sidebar: SHOUT OUT TO THE WAIT STAFF! THEY WERE ON TOP OF THE WATER AND CLEARING THE TABLE! GREAT JOB! THE FOOD: Our waitress again, not very knowledgeable on the menu, failed to advise us of some pretty critical things that every customer should know regarding their steaks. She suggested a few side items and we went with her suggestions on the sauces that she advised paired well with the steaks. We ordered 2 meatball apps, a Ceasar Salad, two Prime Rib Eye steaks, two Fiore cocktails, mashed potatoes, and glazed carrots. All dinners come with bread service and olive oil, but due to the space, we had to send the bread away to be boxed. Meatballs: Superb. Hint of spice. Ceasar Salad: Subpar. Steaks: Below Subpar. I requested a medium plus, and my friend a medium well, they both came out well done, overcooked, and disappointing. Cocktails: Subpar. No lavender as advised and listed on the menu, and for an upcharge to add vodka, we didn't even feel we'd drank anything. *There was no lavender in the house. Sides: Mashed Potatoes were okay. There was nothing special. Carrots were Subpar. They were supposed to be glazed, the glaze was on the plate, not the carrots. And the plate looked like something that you would serve at home. There was no razzle dazzle to the presentation at all. Back to the steak, which was supposed to be the star of the show. I mean, it's called Sexy Steak, right? The steaks came out on a sizzling plate that the servers literally warned you repeatedly not to touch. Remember, our table is very small, and the plates are big, we were trying to maneuver without touching the plates. They overstate not touching the plates but mention nothing of the sizzling liquid on the plate that continues to pop for at least another three minutes or so. They should probably rethink this or serve goggles. Our steaks were overcooked and tough with no flavor and a lot of fat. The liquid that we thought was grease, we later found out was zip sauce; it's not the traditional zip sauce consistency. The waitress was supposed to ask if we wanted to have the plate with the zip sauce or dry. Well, we didn't know and for the first five minutes that the steaks arrived, we feared 3rd-degree burns or eye injury. Also, no A1 steak sauce was avail, and the zip and truffle butter did nothing for the steak. Alec, GM, and Nadia provided complimentary cocktails and dessert for our disappointment. Overall, we had such high hopes for this place that they failed to meet but it has the potential to be amazing. Oh, and they need a dress code too. People should dress for a...

I looked up steakhouses in Detroit based on reviews, and this location had one of the highest ratings with the most reviews. I’m hoping I just caught them on a bad night.
Upon walking up to the steakhouse, the manager opened the door for me. When I walked in, I was greeted by the hostess team, and as a solo diner, I took a seat at the bar. I was immediately greeted by the bartender and wait staff—so far, so good. I checked out the menu: decent selection, good cocktails, and no issues with the drinks.
I started with an appetizer of grilled oysters and ordered the 32-ounce tomahawk steak as my main course, along with a Caesar salad.
The oysters came out quickly but didn’t appear to be grilled at all—more likely cooked under a salamander. Upon tasting them, they were heavily overcooked and poorly seasoned. The menu mentioned garlic butter and what I believe was Pecorino or Romano cheese. I’m very familiar with grilled oysters, having spent six years in New Orleans and trying them at many places, especially Drago’s and Neyow’s.
I gave the restaurant a pass on the oysters, understanding that this is Detroit and very few places outside of Louisiana know how to do grilled oysters properly. I would advise not ordering them here—they’re simply not worth it.
The Caesar salad came out promptly alongside the steak. Before the steak arrived, I was warned that the plate would be extremely hot and not to touch it.
The salad was excellent—great preparation, exquisite dressing, fresh, crispy lettuce. It was honestly the highlight of the meal.
The steak arrived pre-cut, sizzling on the plate. What stood out to me immediately was how thin the cut was for a 32-ounce tomahawk ribeye. Additionally, the steak was way overcooked. I had ordered it medium rare, but there were only three pieces that were even remotely pink; the rest was done or well-done.
I mentioned the condition of the steak to the staff and was told that because the plate is so hot, it continues to cook after being served. While I appreciate the staff defending the kitchen, I’ve eaten steak all over the U.S.—from Ruth’s Chris in New Orleans to Knife in Dallas, Peter Luger in Brooklyn, Nick & Stef’s in LA, and May Daly’s in Vegas. That explanation doesn’t cut it.
I’m typically not one to complain, but when you order a $180 steak and it’s completely overcooked, you have to say something. They offered to send it back and make another one, but I declined. I ate the three pink pieces and left the rest. The server said he’d speak to the manager and do what he could. I thanked him and appreciated his effort.
The entire steak, minus three bites, was left on the plate and went into the trash—I told the server I didn’t want a box.
When the check came, not only was nothing adjusted, but a 20% service charge was also added. At this point, I found it all wildly comical. I spoke directly with the server and let him know I wasn’t upset with him—he did everything he could given the situation and tools available. He said he spoke with both the chef and the manager, and they weren’t going to do anything because I didn’t send the steak back or eat it.
I spoke with the manager, explained what had happened, and he said he would see what he could do. He “graciously” removed the oysters and my water from the bill, which brought it from $302 down to $281. I laughed at what a generous gesture that was.
Initially, I thought maybe this was just an off night, but based on their response, I’d say this is probably their standard operating procedure. I’m not sure who’s leaving all these glowing reviews, but it seems to me they’re people who don’t know how steak is supposed to be cooked.
Overall, it was a very poor experience. I would avoid this place—complete waste of money. I’m out nearly $300 and still hungry, looking for a proper steak in Detroit. I have photos of the steak and my bill for your...

Extremely poor customer service and if you are looking for a realistic review please let this be your voice of reason because this restaurant is definitely not worth your time. I visited Sexy Steak in Detroit for this first time to celebrate my 28th birthday as I'm from Windsor, Canada. The stand-off behaviour from the host Zain and the Bartender Mackenzey as well as the manger on duty on the night of May 23rd 2025 around 8:30pm, First I was told my outfit which was a crop top tank/ spaghetti strap style and long maxi skirt set was out of dress code by Zain he then proceeded to say they have a STRICT dress code but at the same time a women wearing a similar top to me paired with shirts was exiting the restaurant.
Zain immediately said the reservation must be cancelled and the $50 cancellation fee will be applied but then last minute with a blank stone face suggested if I have a jacket and I did which was in the car so I sent my friend to go and get it as we waited, in the meantime Zain asked if we wanted the cake that we had bought to be stored in the fridge which I said yes and then shortly after he rudely says that's gonna be a $25 usd fee (we're Canadian so that would've been more then $25 and that was fine but that attitude that came with the delivery of information was unacceptable) AFTER I handed it to him instead of before because I would’ve refused considering the customer service was of to a bad start.
Anyways I get my jacket and we head upstairs to be seated, my entire table ( party of 4) was extremely disappointed to the point that we agreed to order 1 drink to the table and leave to avoid the $50 usd cancellation fee and I told our server why we decided to end our experience early and she said word for word “ I don’t want to get involved” and she proceeded to place my order for 1 margarita. As soon as she placed the drink on the table a manager came over after our server was whispering to him and said that he needed the table for other customers and proceeded to rush us the the bar and even tried to grab my drink to hurry us up and once we get to the bar to sit he brings over a chair because there was only 3 chairs but we were a party of 4
That’s when Mackenzey the bartender comes over with the worst attitude I’ve ever seen and asked if we had moved the chair and we said no the manger did, then she RUDELY says “ oh well I need that seat! ” and immediately turns her back to us to go speak with Zain as they both continue to look over at us. At that point my 3 friends and I were over the experience all together because it just seemed to be getting worse and just wanted to pay for the drink and leave!
But they prolonged the process on purpose and Mackenzey the bartender acted as if she couldn’t understand that I’m asking for a receipt to pay and leave, she then tells me to walk behind the bar to where she is to pay by card, it did not make sense for me to go behind the bar as a customer because the severs/ bartenders usually just take the card and bring back a receipt to sign so I asked another bartender and he said no we bring receipts to you, you don’t go back there that’s when Mackenzey finally brings the receipt again and this time she PURPOSELY points out 20% gratuity almost as if she was rubbing it in that they get the automatic tip anyways so we pay in cash to avoid the confusion because clearly she was confused, once we finally get to pay we proceed to exit Mackenzey and Zain were again continuing to watch and whisper to each other, so we left and went to another restaurant near buy which was amazing a night and day experience.
Over all worst experiences EVER! My birthday dinner was ruined specifically by Zain I. And Mackenzey W. Don’t work in a customer service career field if you can’t be a decent human...
