Susan has easels set up for two in her gallery, and so I started out taking lessons with her on date nights with my husband. It was fun to paint and then cross the street to Garrison City Brewing for dinner. Since then, I’ve kept going with the lessons. I look forward to this highlight of my week so much. I was a complete beginner a year ago and have learned more than I ever thought I would. I’ve made some paintings I’m proud of and have enjoyed the process. It’s so great to go and have all the materials set up and provided—and not only that but hot tea and peppermints, as well. I feel like the space Susan creates for making art in the back room of her gallery is my new happy place! I’ve also learned a lot from John Shevenell, a visiting artist who teaches watercolor and drawing at SEH Studios. His drawing classes have helped me with my oil painting, and I’m on round two of his watercolor classes!
