BUYER BEWARE! I Purchased a supposedly new Yuneec Typhoon Q500 at full price from Sky Hobby. Flew it three times. It crashed three times. Sent it to the manufacturer to be fixed. Was told that the problem was due to the fact that the drone had been poorly refurbished outside the factory before I purchased it. They explained that a hack soldering job was causing the controls to short out. Sky Hobby refused to stand behind their product and I am out several hundred dollars in repairs!
I feel compelled to respond to some of the owners accusations. All three crashes occurred after the Q500 took off on its own and failed to respond to the controller after being airborne for just a few minutes. The total flight time since purchase has been about 5 minutes. After the third crash I sent the Q500 to Yuneec for analysis. The service tech at Yuneec concluded from a visual inspection of the Q500 wiring, the flight data and the video images, that a "bad soldering job" on the Q500 control wires by someone outside the factory caused all three crashes. He said that the solder job shorted out the flight controls, which caused the craft to lose contact with the controller and fly off on its own. I never soldered anything. I don't even own a soldering tool. My fixes included replacing broken propellers and camera mounts following each crash. These expenses plus shipping the craft to Yuneec totaled about $150.00. I explained all this to the Sky Hobby sales rep who called the distributor, Horizon Hobby, to seek compensation. Sky Hobby called me back about 15 minutes later and said that Horizon Hobby agreed to take the craft back. I thanked him and asked him about compensation for my out of pocket expenses since the Q500 apparently was neither new nor operational when I bought it from them. The Sky Hobby sales rep told me to call Horizon Hobby directly and seek reimbursement directly from them. I thought this was odd but I called Horizon Hobby. They told me that they wouldn't or couldn't deal directly with me and somebody at Sky Hobby would call me back. When I didn't hear from Sky Hobby right away I called them and the sales clerk told me that the entire deal was now off and the best he would do was offer a store credit for $100.
Yes, I purchased the craft form Sky Hobby in July of 2015, but this is not a warranty issue. This is Sky Hobby selling me an apparently used and rebuilt aircraft for over $1200 and advertising it as new. I don't know who is at fault. Everybody is pointing fingers at somebody else and the Sky Hobby owner has resorted to name-calling. These...

Great dudes that know what you need and have what you need to keep playing( in my case: small 150 size heli 2 trex 700 and one trex 800 and a losi 1/5th scale xl monster truck and a chroma drone, batteries and chargers etc.).
Folks interested in money savings and all kinds of r/c toys.
As far as new items: they are super competitive; in other words you may pay the same or a few bucks over online websites BUT (money is key for me, as in really don't want to spend a cent over what I have to)
I would like to say with this point folks: there, you can see it, touch it, maybe play it, discuss it with someone that is experience with it and when you break it, you can also go there, get parts and maybe repair it or send it to where warranty or repairs me be addressed.
As far as used: it's even better; awesome deals in most occasions, like less than half the price and great toys.
Oh and did I mentioned that they welcome you with a smile and are super friendly and easy to talk to????
Needless to say:
I highly...
Read moreBig Sky Hobby is THE place to go for to learn about RC planes, rockets, and anything hobby! We were new to town, so we went off of Google and found the jackpot of a hobby store in the Twin Cities! We walked in with a list for rocket engines, and the staff was very knowledgable and helpful. My oldest son was also interested in RC planes, and they steered him in the right direction for a ready to learn plane, and it was cheaper than the others. Two days later, we returned (with some structural issues from the first flight :-)) and the staff taught my oldest how to fix the plane, rather than buy new parts. Jeremy and the staff also provided us with information on local RC groups as well as local rocket groups. I would recommend Big Sky Hobby for any of your...
