This used to be my favorite spot since the original Savoys in St.Paul closed. When I came in this time I noticed menu changes, none of the same cooks, none of the same wait staff, etc. I asked if the place had been sold and in fact it had been. My family decided to give it a chance after being assured by wait staff that all recipies have remained unchanged. There are major changes here and I wouldn't bring my family back to spend 120+ dollars for completely substandard food and service. The new cooks don't seem to know how to utilize a brick oven and cutting corners on product is probably not the best choice. The new style italian sausage tastes like it came out of a bag/box, not fresh at all. The big dipper used to have thick italian bread with a good amount of cheese and best of all seasoned nicely. Now, it is simply a sprinkle of cheese on toast with almost no seasoning except for the top two pieces. A meat lovers pizza is so thin that it looks like no toppings are on it at all. With all these corners being cut and quality down the tubes I don't see this place lasting very long. It was really disappointing and substandard. I grew up in St.paul and know what a good pizza is supposed to be, and this isn't it. For the past year or so, I didn't mind driving forty five minutes for the food, now I wouldn't even bother crossing the street for it. Maybe go to Carbones in St.Paul or Northfield or try to find something more worth your hard earned money, I know I am on the lookout for a place that could come close to the original Savoys that used to be on east 7th street in St.Paul.
UPDATE: Location Eagan. I have pics of big dipper from months ago and it's not the same. Not sure but these cooks all looked new to me, or at least different. No problem and I mean no disrespect to anyone, just expected better. Maybe next time. I know Carbones is a franchise, and the one in New Prague sucked so bad they shut down and yet Northfield is...
Read moreWe went here for a birthday party, and the service was incredibly slow. We were left with some very disappointed and unhappy people. They left us waiting forever and didn’t even have the courtesy to offer us refills of beer or something. They also brought us a pitcher of water, but brought us the glasses for said water much later. Nice.
This has never happened to us before, and we were extremely disappointed.
We have had a lot of found memories of going here over the years and we have never had a bad experience…until now. Whoever manages this place now should be ashamed of themselves.
It was strange too. Hardly anyone seemed to be there, so there seemed to be no excuse for this. Supposedly, this was because there were only two cooks in the kitchen, but how hard is it to put in a pizza? They offered us a discount, but they should have given it to us for free the service was so terrible.
Overall, we will never go back here again, which is a shame, as this was one of our favorite restaurants. Instead of going home happy, we were left with cranky, grouchy people and an evening that was basically ruined.
The clowns currently who run this place apparently don’t care and have no issue with running one of the best pizza places in the southern Twin Cities into the ground. Have they no shame? If you can’t provide people with a decent experience, just save us all the headache and go out...
Read moreMy husband, 2 young daughters and I visited after reading excellent reviews. We ordered a large deep dish cheese pizza. The server informed us that there were diced tomatoes on top..nice of her to give us a heads up. For dessert, we saw gelato on the special board and table tents. 3 of us ordered some. It was served in to-go ramekin cups with snap on lids straight from the freezer. While it's flavor was ok, I've never had frozen solid gelato before. The bill was given to my husband. Upon glancing it over, he asked me to guess how much the gelato was. It was not posted anywhere on the special board, table tents, nor menu. I jokingly guessed $3 each, thinking that was too much. He told me $4.99 each! Ridiculous! We spent more on low quality, gelato out of a plastic cup than we did on pizza. In my opinion, the server should have given us a heads up on the price, especially since 2 of the orders were from kids (more expensive than the kids meal). And I learned the lesson to ask for a price next time. But I...
