The Lismore Hotel Eau Claire - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel — Attraction in Eau Claire

This was the worst “hospitable” experience I’ve ever encountered. I saw the prices and originally booked somewhere else, my first choice was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday and informed me I would be transferring to the Lismore at the same price I booked for; I was charged nearly double what I was quoted. The room I checked into had food left in the cupboard (logically where a microwave would be) I placed it in the hallway, it wasn’t removed until the following evening. The headboard had dripping liquid stains, the shower door next to the toilet had obviously never been cleaned of the urine that didn’t make into the toilet. I once tried to order room service from The Informalist, no one answered and was sent to someone’s personal voicemail. I got dressed and went down to order the food to my room, where the hostess first ignored our presence at one of the entrances, then required extra payment for room delivery (I was standing in the restaurant to order) and insisted we go back to our room to get our identification to order alcohol, even though it would be delivered to the room, which at the current time held our identification. The hallway had holes and dings along all the walls, what I believe is from the cleaning carts being mishandled. While walking back to my incredibly overpriced room, a woman cleaning the rooms swung leaking garbage bags across the open (1 foot wide) pathway, leaving a pungent, thick, brown liquid across the carpeting; the hallway reeked of rotting garbage for the remainder of our stay. This establishment is an embarrassment to Eau Claire, to my hometown, and I deeply regret bringing my fiancé to The Lismore Hotel. We are frequently travelers (approximately 24 bookings a year at resorts from Jamaica to East Africa) and through our observations we surmised that management is knowingly complicit and was not worth our energy to inform them of thew short comings on the property, as there would have not even been an attempt to rectify any issues. I fully expect an AI generated/PR problem solver to reach out through this review: I do not expect a refund or any sort of compensation. However, I do want this review to be a warning to any future guests who might consider staying at The Lismore. The Lismore is a Hilton affiliate managed by GF Hotels & Resorts, based out of Philadelphia and they seem to manage lower end Hiltons like Courtyard or other DoubleTrees, not luxury hotels. Review for Feb 28/Mar 1 2022 for stay in room 517. The good. The place had nice décor, was very clean throughout, and the bed was super comfy. The staff was friendly. The place is trendy, but that is not really my scene. I did not care for the mandatory mask policy for all, no matter what your vaccination status was. Not sure what drove that, maybe it was city wide. The bad. Things were going great until I was awakened at 4:15 am by what can only be described as a "coffee grinder" noise. It was was not continuous, but happened frequently. I turned on the AC/Heat fan and that had a rattle/vibration. I was able to determine it was the removable screens, so I removed them. They were dirty and needed cleaned, but at least the noise stopped. With the help of the fan and the TV, I was able to drown out the coffee grinder noise and get back to sleep an hour or so later. Once up, I noticed the shower head needed cleaned, as the nozzles are plugged. The water sprays in different directions and not at full flow. I would not recommend eating at the hotel restaurant, the Informalist. The server was attentive, but the trendy food is overpriced and the rib I ordered had zero flavor. Their hamburger actually had more meat. For $55 plus tax and tip, I had a small salad (blah), one sour beer (also blah, but not their fault) and that one small rib. I am fine with the price, but I want a decent portion and good flavor. I went to another local place for breakfast and found good tasting food at a reasonable price. Oh, I also had a $15 food credit for being a gold member. The gal at the front desk said to let the server know. I did. He said nothing he could do, that I needed to talk to the front desk. No one mentioned that I needed to charge my bill to my room, then the hotel would credit me the $15 on the hotel bill. Not a huge deal, but it just made the experience that much worse. Stayed between 12/15/21-12/16/21; Was originally planning on 2 nights then decided to just do 1 night instead.... Little backstory/history of the property first: Had lived in EC between 1998-2006 and this hotel was a Holiday Inn during that time. Had visited EC 5-6 times since moved and during that time the hotel had also been the Ramada Inn. My 2nd to last visited to EC was in 2017 and during that time this hotel was being remodeled. Last time I had stayed over night at this hotel location was in 2012 when this was the Ramada Inn. The hotel had declined rapidly when it used to be the "crown jewel" of all the hotels in EC and held many conventions & etc..... Now owned by Hilton and called "The Lismore"... The most expensive of all the hotels in EC. They gave most of the property a facelift and remodeled certain sections such as the restaurant spot that used to have a continental buffet inside it with a separate bar area on the west end of the lobby overlooking Barstow St. now all combined into 1 restaurant space called "The informant" with no free breakfast buffet. They got rid of the pool area that was on the 2nd level for a "rooftop" bar area. Added a pricey mom & pop coffee shop to the lobby too. Computer area that used to be by the elevators is gone. The rooms have these generic vintage newspaper pages painted on parts of the walls even though for some reason none are from local area Leader Telegram, Chippewa Herald or Dunn County News. They rely on a satellite provider that went out due to high winds that blew through most of the Midwest that night. Installed new showers but nothing to seal between the edges on either side of the glass shower doors and the shower wall so half the bathroom floor was covered with water after only 5 minutes in the shower..... Final verdict is they make this place look fancy while overcharging for what you get. Wasn't worth $130+ for 1 night.....
