My fiancĂ© and I have been Stubs A-List members since 2018 and today was one of if not the absolute worst experiences we have ever had at any theater. This morning we arrived at the Southdale theater in Edina, MN to see a movie at 9:30am. To our surprise the doors were locked. We went into the mall where there was several dozen people and 4 AMC employees waiting outside a gated and locked theater. The manager had not shown. We empathized with the poor employees who were put into an unfair situation where they were asked questions they did not know how to answer and were locked out just as we were. Finally, at almost 10:30, the manager finally graced us with his presence. Many patrons had already left as they had gotten tired of waiting and the films they had tickets to see were near the end. We approached him to inquire about a refund for our July month membership and he said that he could not help and unless we just wanted a voucher for a free ticket he couldnât help. We asked the next steps on who we could speak with and he said to go online and call the number to speak with someone. We called the number listed and it said there was no customer phone service available. We went back in to ask for a better number as we wanted to speak to someone directly versus filing out an online form. He said the number he had was probably what we tried, but we wanted to confirm. He said he would get it and then walked away to assist someone else. He eventually came back and said there was nothing he could do so we asked for a GM or regional number to call and he said he couldnât provide one. We asked if he could call and let them know we wanted to speak with them. He said no. I asked if he could write down the number for service for us to call to rectify the situation. He wrote down a number and said this is what he was told to give out. We asked what the number went to and his response was âThis is all I can give you so if you donât like it, thereâs the doorâ as he pointed to the main doors. At that point we left as we could see we were no longer welcome and we called the number he provided. Upon calling the number we were shocked to have it answered by another theater location and not customer service and/or corporate. I apologized to the employee that he had to take my call and deal with a situation they had not caused. I requested they take my number and email and have someone call me back as at this time I really wanted to talk to someone directly. He was great and took my information, apologized for the situation, and said he would put the request out to several departments. I just want to say how this was handled and addressed by this incompetent manager was absolutely appalling. Not only did it fail us and other patrons, but it failed your other employees. How we were spoken to and treated was uncalled for as we were not the one who failed to meet the expectations of the job as manager of...

Located within close proximity of Minneapolis, AMC Southdale 16 stands out as one of the best AMC theaters I've had the pleasure of visiting. Its offering of comfortable reclining seats across most of its theaters is a significant draw, making the movie-watching experience thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing.
This AMC theater ensures that movie-goers have access to all the latest shows and films, a feature that consistently impresses me. Their variety is complemented by diverse viewing options including Dolby, IMAX, and digital screenings, enhancing the overall cinematic experience.
One standout aspect of AMC Southdale 16 is the excellent customer service provided by the staff. The personnel at the ticket check-in are incredibly supportive, always ready to answer questions and provide directions. Their amiable nature and efficient service set them apart from employees at other AMC locations I've visited.
Moreover, never have I found myself stuck in an overly long line for refreshments, a testament to their operational efficiency. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the roaming staff who frequently check if patrons need assistance or directions - a small but impactful touch.
However, it's important to note some areas where there's room for improvement. The quality of the fountain drinks, particularly the Diet Coke, sometimes falls short of expectations, tasting somewhat off. Additionally, some of the machines can be out of order or run out of key ingredients like ice cubes. Many of the drinks lean towards being overly carbonated, masking the actual flavor. I would highly recommend that these issues are addressed to elevate the overall customer experience.
While I adore this AMC, I look forward to seeing reclining seats extended to all their theaters. This feature significantly enhances the viewing experience and sets AMC Southdale 16 apart from many other locations.
This AMC's location is an added advantage, nestled amongst a range of high-end malls including Macy's, making it the perfect destination for a day out. A trip to the movies at AMC Southdale 16 seamlessly blends into a whole getaway, allowing for a day of shopping and relaxation.
In conclusion, AMC Southdale 16 provides a top-notch movie experience, complete with a comfortable viewing environment, wide selection of films, and excellent customer service. Despite some minor drawbacks, particularly with their beverage offerings, its location amidst popular shopping destinations makes it an ideal choice for a full-day outing. I eagerly anticipate my return for my next movie adventure, hopefully with improved...
Read moreUpdated Updating from 3 to 2 stars. A couple recent visits and I'm not impressed. We've been to multiple showings and experienced the nicer Dolby theater as well as the smaller, further back theaters and things are showing their age. Some screens have visible marks, or spots, regardless of what's showing on screen. On 3 visits I've encountered (personally or another person in our group) chairs that either don't work at all, or will recline and raise your feet, but the raised feet portion slowly falls down. The concession stand needs attention. And staff. The dedicated A-List line seems to be an afterthought. Cashiers were on and off their registers making it confusing if they were going to be serving anyone. Someone helped 2 customers in front of me. The next guests stepped forward, but the cashier didn't return. We were left standing there ignored for several minutes. Finally they interrupted someone to get their order placed. Also I haven't been able to find a pop machine that serves ice on my first try. I always have to switch machines. I'd like to spend less time here, but for some reason my usual AMC just hasn't had good showtimes.
UPDATED Hadn't been here in some time. Below are my most recent comments.
**New do-it-yourself ticket kiosks are nice and provide a quick purchase. Concession line was quick and friendly. My theater door was roped off with a note that the theater was being cleaned. Okay fine, Usually not a problem, but I was 5 minutes late. Went through to my seat and the theater was NOT cleaned from the previous showing. Popcorn tubs, drinks and candy wrappers all over various aisles. The reclining seats were limited to the height to which you could raise your legs. I thought it was just my seat, but when I tried the seats on either side of me, they also only went up about 45 degrees. The back reclined, which helped a bit, but it would have been nice to get my feet up a bit more. The arm rests that have the cup holders feel short. Short in the sense that your elbow doesn't have much room if you don't want it dipping into an empty cup holder. There would be very little room for one person's elbow if both seats placed their cups. The screen was great. Crisp, clear, vibrant and the theater had great sound. Effects moved around the room accurately and weren't distracting. **end of update - original review is below
Clean, comfy theaters. Great sound and picture, regardless of the theater size. Usually quick lines at the ticket counter. Concession lines can be a longer wait. Staff is always friendly. Wide hallways allow for after movie chatter with...
