My Dad stayed in the TCU at Aurora over the past couple months after suffering complications of stage 4 cancer. It's a beautiful facility, and we have nothing but good things to say about the staff, especially nursing manager Mike A., Anni, Willie, Bebe, Emmanuel, and everyone else involved with his care. We were with Dad just about every day until his passed last week, and witnessed the nurses' and CNAs' gentle demeanor - you can really tell they cared for him. He was comfortable up until the end. They were so kind to us (a day or two before Dad died, Anni comforted me outside his room and Willie brought us snacks and cracked jokes with us), and it made such a world of difference during this difficult time.
I wanted to share an excerpt from Dad's CaringBridge from the day he passed: "Dad wished to be cremated, so after we said our final goodbyes, a gentleman from the Cremation Society arrived, carefully wrapped Dad in a clean white sheet, and put him on what looked like a stretcher with a beautiful red velvet covering. The Chaplain came in with a beautiful quilt from Aurora and laid it over Dad. They then wheeled Dad down the hallway and out of the front door in a procession as Pastor Tim, the Chaplain, and all of us followed. Those we passed bowed their heads and blessed us. When we got to the front, I turned around and a big group of the Aurora staff were standing behind us with their heads bowed, many of the nurses crying because they had really come to love Dad. It was so beautiful."
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone at Aurora for helping to give Dad the dignity and comfort he deserved during his last few months, and for giving us the peace of mind that he was well-taken care of. You are all absolute angels, and we are overwhelmed with gratitude with the grace and kindness you provided us while doing a job that must be so emotionally...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a hip revision on the right side and was sent to aurora to recuperate from the surgery and for physical therapy and occupational therapy. Well I get there and the nurse on duty didn't even know I was coming and then just left me sit in a wheelchair in my room for over an hour I at that point started to yell for help because I also had been pressing the call button but know one came. There is a young Somalian nurse working there that should lose her job. For my hip revision I had a wound vac placed there that sucked the impurities and blood out but I had to be taken to the hospital to get the canister changed because Aurora didn't have any I went there twice. The Somalian nurse when she changed it put it in the regular trash instead of Hazzard waste container it was full of blood and I mean full she also has a bad bedside manner when she talked to me she made it sound as if I was dying and that I should call my son and say good bye to him, I was left devastated. The day I left Ediths was hired to pick me up and transported home. Ok I paid the $65 amount so I wouldn't have to climb into a mini van since I'm only 4'7" and just had the wound vac removed and staples removed. I get yelled at by someone in the office a short woman with long brown hair asking why I didn't want to climb into the van so I told her about my sircomstances and that it would be too pain full since I was 2 weeks out of surgery and then the Somalian nurse yelled at me to. Hey I paid the 65$ myself what the hell does it matter the money came out of my pocket not theirs. Had Somalian nurse again and she proceeded to take my blood pressure the wrong way she put it around my fore arm I don't know maybe she was stoned or something but she shouldn't be working there with low...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy aunt spent 2 weeks in transitional care unit the first weeks of December 2018. The care she received was unprofessional, rude, unsafe and uncaring to say the least! She was left alone in the shower on day 2 of her stay because the staff told her that her shift was ending. When she called for help to the bathroom because she was no allowed up on her own as she was a high fall risk, she would wait for 30 to 60 plus minutes. And then they were rude to her and told her to ājust goā. I was on the phone with her and I heard what they said. They told her they were busy and did not have time to help her. When they found out I was on the phone they became upset, one even told her she did not Need to be on the phone with me and took her cell phone from her and hung up on me. I did report this, and was told it would be looked into and addressed. Not much of anything changed. When I was sent the notes from our care conference they did not even have her diagnosis right, now how do we trust they will take care of our loved one when they donāt even know what the basics about them. They had in her chart that she had a broken hip, this was not at all right. During her time there she lost 6 pounds, this is the opposite of rehab and building up strength! This is how they treated an 86 year old weak lady. She spent her life as a nurse caring for many sick patients and she could not even get help to the bathroom.
I have worked in healthcare for over 40 years, and I cannot let this go without telling others out there if you, or your family or friends are looking for a rehab place this is NOT where you want to go. I canāt believe Medicare or any private insurance would be paying for this care if they really knew what was...
