2024: Items I planned to buy were not on the shelf again.
I suggest you pay for delivery or shop at a different store.
December, 2022: Many of the items I buy are priced lower elsewhere - at one or more chain stores other than Lunds & Byerlys. Pickup or delivery of some products may be free there also.
This large store has one entrance near the southeast corner of the store, so many food items are a long walk from the entrance.
I dislike the dark decor of this store.
December, 2021 - I have seen some maskless employees at this store. A woman with customer service said employees are expected to wear masks. With the omicron variant spreading rapidly, mask wearing seems appropriate to me.
Cold conduct by some employees occurs at this store.
Bracing myself for this cold wind makes it hard to respond to sunshine there.
I am buying more per visit and making fewer visits to reduce my exposure to the cold conduct by some employees at this store.
Lunds & Byerlys' charges for in-store pickup or delivery are prohibitive.
(1) On a weekday during April 13-17, 2020, I saw:
The Lunds and Byerlys website has information on its response to the covid-19 pandemic provided by Tres Lund, President.
The April 8th entry says masks will be purchased for employees.
A "manager" at this store claimed the masks have been purchased for the employees who requested them.
The employee decides whether or not to wear a mask.
Mask wearing has been recommended at grocery stores and pharmacies for difficulty staying 6 feet apart there.
On April 24, 2020, I see :
"- Requiring store staff to wear masks or cloth face coverings."
now appears in an undated version of the Lunds and Byerlys website's
"covid-19 update and actions we're taking"
(2) At least one of the several products I plan to buy here has been absent from the shelf on most of my visits here.
I had to make a trip to a second store, for three different products absent from the shelf at this store, on three different shopping days, in my first month or so of shopping at this store.
I stockpile extra items at home to try to buffer against absent products.
One product has not been on the shelf. often enough, despite being in stock in the back, for me to report this to the vendor of the product.
(3) Self-service checkout machines.
Although I can not say employees ask self-serve checkout machine users to show a receipt, I will say asking honest customers to show a receipt is a defective plan better not used.
Also, asking customers to listen for speech from and to read screens on self-service checkout machines in the same time period is a design error.

Read moreByerlys is not what it used to be. Since taking over, the Lund family has slowly decimated what used to be a premier shopping experience.
Since then, Lunds has closed the full service restaurants; closed drive-through pick up in some locations; eliminated the thick, silky blue paper Byerlys bags; closed Prairie Stone Pharmacy; renovated stores to look like the somewhat generic and dumpy Lunds versions; got rid of in store dietitians; closed in-store bakeries and food prep and centralized it all in a factory (aka "corporate kitchen"); eliminated full-service bakery departments in favor of self-service; and reduced ingredient quality and portions of prepared foods.
With all of this cost-cutting, you might assume that prices had come down at Lunds & Bylerys but you would be dead wrong, they've only increased. Some examples (all regular prices except as noted): (1) Lean Cuisine Protein Kick meals: $4.49 at Byerlys, $3.47 at Target/Walmart. Stouffer's Grandma's Chicken & Vegetable Rice Bake: $13.19 at Byerlys, $10.49 / $9.99 sale at Target. Starbucks Coffee Ground Sumatra: $14.99 at Byerlys, $9.99 / $7.99 sale at Target (yes, almost DOUBLE the price at Byerlys for the same thing).
People who shop at Byerlys understood you weren't getting the lowest prices and would typically pay 5-10 cents more per item for the added services and luxury of the stores, but I never realized until I compared exact items how much more Byerlys costs now. I'm OK with slightly higher prices, I am not OK paying $1 to $7 more for the exact same item just to make Trey Lund and his family even richer.
I still like Byerlys overall but I've greatly reduced my spending here and will shop for the bulk of items elsewhere because the savings really add up by comparing prices on...
Read moreMe and my friend were walking around town, and used a spot in the lot to park. The lot is tiny, but I have a Lincoln Sedan, so it still fit well in the spot. As I was going to pull out, a car came zooming though the parking lot, honking at me. I've never once gotten even that close to an accident before. I was barely pulling out, looking both ways. I then pulled back into my spot, and as I was backing out again, a customer and employee came out of no where (need I remind you, I was constantly looking) and I pulled back into my spot. I had my windows down when I heard the employee saying some very rude things about "my driving" when it wasn't my fault. I had to back in and out of my parking spot a total of 5 times before I could pull out. I am not happy. From the cars being very inconsiderate, to the rude employee saying things straight to my face calling me stupid, expecially talking with a customer he wahelping, really upset me. I don't hate Lunds and Byerlys, but the nerve of an employee to say rude things to another guest, saying it loud enough for me to hear, was not called for. I work in retail, and would never say that to another guest. Very...
