I'm an art vendor every year, and I love the people who attend!!! There are lots of people in costumes. Usually 3 stages of live entertainment, street performers, Food, Booze, Vendors, Art installations, live graffiti artists, a thunderdome with fire performances, and much more. To get the most out of the experience, it is best to follow the Nightmare on Chicago Street Facebook page for updates, maps of the event, instructions on what to do and where to go, ect. I also recommend finding someone with experience attending the event, and have them be your guide-- go with friends. The event is geared towards a mature audience, 17+ and children are only allowed with parental supervision at all times. (Like an R-rated movie, so be responsible parents) it's important to plan ahead and get there early, to help make everything more seamless. The event usually lasts from 6pm to 11pm, you don't want to arrive late and be stuck in line. Get your tickets and wristbands online ahead of time to be prepared. Thousands of people attend. No weapons even if they're props for your costumes ...And, lastly, it spans multiple blocks of downtown Elgin, so make sure to walk around the whole event, and follow your map to see every attraction! It's...
Read moreI’m not one to leave a review, but I feel this one should be shared. It was my first year going. I was super excited, but it just wasn’t that fun. I am also extremely upset with security because they took my medical grade cane away because he thought it was a weapon even though I absolutely needed it to walk since I was recently in an accident. (Had a doctors note) so walking around without my cane was not fun at all. Not to mention the 12 other people I saw inside with a cane not sure why that was allowed. Security promised he would keep it for me for when it was time to go. Surprise surprise came back to pick it up just to be told he lost it or someone else took it. So when he saw how visibly upset I was he started to yell at me and starting cussing at me. It definitely ruined my experience. He did not tell me his name. I don’t think I’ll be coming...
Read moreI had a blast. 1st time going, not the part of i can help it. We took the train which left a 5 minute walk. It was crowded near the stages/ entertainers and inside the bars, but otherwise easy to move around even with my sister in a wheelchair. The decorations were great, everything was super entertaining. We got there at 6 and the line moved fast, about 15 minutes to get in. Police presence was everywhere and very welcome. Didn't see anyone getting out of control. Lines for food and drinks in the streets were not bad at all. Lots of porta-potties everywhere. For some reason 1 at had huge Lines while others had none, so I just went back to the ones with no line when...
