I brought home a big haul of conchas and other types of sweet bread but they were all a bit stale. I know conchas, and these were not it. Not sure if they were just a bad batch but other reviews seem to agree that the quality is a bit lacking. There's also a separate restaurant on the bottom floor. Not sure if it's the same owner of the bakery though? Definitely an interesting set up. I can't quite put my finger to it but something about this place vibe was a bit off. I'm not sure if I'll be back again soon.

I've been coming to Pastigel for a couple of years now. It's nice to have a bakery right in downtown Elgin. We noticed that they opened up a Mexican/Columbian restaurant in the downstairs area, a change that I'm really happy with. The area is comfortable and has a relaxing vibe. The food is good and, like always, the staff are welcoming and pleasant. I'd love to see this little restaurant grow into something more!

We ordered a Birthday cake for my son's 3rd birthday and it was DELICIOUS! Super moist the filling was exactly what I wanted. Be cautious about the dye used for the frosting. They did warn us about using black so we went with grey and green(which still stains) Other than that highly recommend this place. They have a great selection of sweets. We will be ordering from them again! 🙂

Updating my review to 1 star after that condescending response from the owner. Imagine telling someone who grew up buying pan dulce from your shop that they “weren’t a customer” just because you “don’t recognize their face.” Qué falta de respeto. Let me remind you: I was there when the original baker—may he rest in peace—used to run this place with heart. Back then, my mom would bring exact change because she knew the baker sometimes couldn’t break a bill. That’s how loyal we were. I even left a 5-star review years ago when the bread still had soul. But let’s be real—the quality hasn’t been the same since he passed. The bread went stale, and now the windows are filled with AI-generated food instead of real, fresh-baked pride. And instead of taking honest feedback from someone who actually supported this business for more than a decade, you decide to insult me? No, gracias. I’ll be buying my conchas and bolillos somewhere that still honors the tradition—and respects...

I have been going to this bakery for years. My kids loved going to pick their favorite concha’s. Then I noticed that the owner changed. Started to see a change, not a good one the bread was not fresh anymore. Then I went after Halloween of 2023 and was not very impressed. I went early in the morning to see if I can buy “fresh out the oven bread” but the shelves were almost empty. Very disappointed, tried to give them another chance. Went with my daughter because we wanted to relive what we used to do. Pick fresh bread to bring home. However there was not much to pick from and the bread was not fresh at all. So sad and very disappointed to see what has happened to the bakery my kids grew up knowing. Now I have to look for another bakery that would come close or equally good as...

I don’t know if they changed owners or recipe but their prices have gotten really high and the quality has plummeted, all the bread I got was hard and we got it from different cabinets. It was very disappointing,I don’t mind spending more but when I got home I couldn’t believe how hard all the bread was must have been from a day old or something,I tried their tamales which are also not cheap and there’s only a slider of meat. I thought maybe it was the one I got but when I opened the rest of the tamales either red or green only a little meat and we got 6-green and 6-red,we have gone twice this year and same thing but prior to 2023 the bread was cheaper and wayyyyyy more soft. Unfortunately I would not be coming here again it used to be...
