Okay, I was doing the old "MoviePass" for around 6 months. I got it just at the end of its "Product Life Cycle" and it stunk. No other nice way to say it. I enjoyed it, only because it allowed me to go to my local theater, and under 1 mile drive.
I finally caved, and got the AMC Stubs program, the all you can eat buffet of 1st Run movies. Well, up to around 12 movies a month. It's a great deal! For example, I'm going to see The Grinch today, around $20 ticket, and I paid only $20 for the entire month. I get 3 1st run, premium movies a week, around this price, most average around $14 or so.
The theater is a bit of a drive, under 7 miles, but through city streets of Oakland, and the Maze to get there on freeway is actually called "Maze." Great and appropriate name to that bottle neck area of Emeryville.
That's one of the major reasons I put off on joining for so long!
The theater is quite good. It's part of the "cookie cutter" style of AMC theaters, quite different than the Art Deco theater of my town, Alameda. But AMC does a great job, unsure why reviews average under 3 stars?
The staff is attentive and friendly, the areas of concessions are in good order, although the last time I was there on a Thursday, the snack area was quite "used" and dirty, but normal stuff you would see.
I'm not crazy about paying high food prices, but the prices are quite fair and average (overpriced) but not killing you in the pocketbook. I think the Stubs program gives you a free large popcorn and drink on your birthday. They have a full bar, and I'm sure the drinks are sky-high, no "happy hour" but come on. When I was a kid, we couldn't get hard liquor in an American Theater, or Fast Food restaurant. That's nice that they offer that. They also offer other, various specials, and discounts on food, so if you are one who needs to "experience the whole thing" on your movie experience, they got you covered!!!
Again, I would never partake in it on a regular basis, but it's nice to have it there. I hope that it's profitable for the theaters.
This theater offers IMAX, Dolby Cinema, Real 3D, BIG D viewing, Reserved Seating, PRIME, and other distinguishing and customer thrilling features, that standard theaters just can't compare to (including my own home theater.) When you consider all of these premium features are part of their AMC stubs program (at no additional fee) you can see the AMC difference!!! I'm actually getting goosebumps right now, thinking of all that I'm going to enjoy, in the next year of my Stubs membership! So many great movies out there!!!
I saw the Nutcracker movie last week, just in a standard theater. It was so exciting and a great start to the Holiday Season. I'm looking forward to seeing three movies over the next few weeks. The Grinch is today, in Real 3D. Yes!!! Can't wait!!!
HIGHLY...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreRowdy teenagers and adults with talkative kids during the movie that they don't control. Security doesn't patrol theaters and AMC wants you to leave the movie to report anything, so you miss the movie that you paid $15-20 for. Happened the last two times visiting there. I suggest staff and security pop in the theaters after ten minutes a movie starts and/or every now and then to check if there is bad behavior. Also they need to have a policy that adults cannot bring toddlers, elementary kids, etc. to movies after 8pm when 3 hour long movies like Avengers is playing. (called bedtime for kids) Young kids were asking their parents questions the whole time about the movie and complaining they want to go home. Telling management after the show they blame the customer for not leaving the movie and telling them there is disruptive customers. (You miss parts of the movie) They simple said it's our responsibility otherwise how do they know. (They should patrol) Plus they told us come on Mon-Thursday when there is less rowdy behavior and earlier during the day. (Uh or they can do a better job) With technology they can put a camera/audio in each theater, have staff and security patrol, build into the AMC app to report disruptive behavior, etc. I don't agree with them that customers need to report other customers and waste time missing the movie, why even pay to go see movies there? Why even waste your money there when you can go to a different movie theater that's managed better? Other theaters don't give back chat to customers and proactively changes their training for staff and security to fix the problems instead of blaming well behaved customers. That's how you loose customers and money to...
