Many of Erie's citizens would be very disturbed to find out about a recent that took place at the Erie Playhouse. From the Erie Times News archive; "Matthew Weaver, 33, pleaded guilty in January to one count of indecent assault after he inappropriately touched a 14-year-old boy during a play production at the Erie Playhouse. The former Seneca High School French teacher was sentenced to three months to one year in Erie County Prison, followed by one year of intermediate punishment." Recently the Erie Playhouse has chosen to allow Matthew Weaver back by casting him in the upcoming production of Ragtime. People should be asking why the Playhouse is purposefully allowing someone guilty of a sexual assault on a minor back? Not only back, but also to do a show that will directly expose minors to him. Whose choice was this? Why is the Playhouse choosing to stand behind this man, rather than our children? Most likely no one will be held accountable or punished for this deplorable choice, so I urge the citizens or Erie that care about our children to boycott the Playhouse. To contact their season sponsors, and ask why they are supporting an organization that cares more about criminals, than our children's well being. I would suggest contacting the Playhouse directly, but as they have already shown they care little for the welfare of children, one could hardly expect them to care about the taxpayers that...
Read moreYears Ago, The "ERIE PLAYHOUSE" used to be known as The "STRAND THEATRE". Across the street was a MOVIE HOUSE known as The "SHEA THEATRE". At The "STRAND THEATRE" you could see Movies like "DOCTOR ZHIVAGO", "THE DIRTY DOZEN" & "TELL THEM WILLIE BOY IS HERE". Unfortunately, The "SHEA THEATRE" OUTLIVED it's USEFULNESS as a MOVIE THEATRE & the Property was SOLD & a Brand NEW Hotel was Built in it's PLACE. But, The "STRAND THEATRE" tried SURVIVING, but The CITY OF ERIE saw SOMETHING SPECIAL & Decided to turn it into a "THEATRICAL SHOWPLACE". Since the CLASSIC "WARNER THEATRE" STOPPED Showing Movies & it BECAME a PALACE for WEDDING'S, WEDDING RECEPTIONS, GRADUATIONS, ANNIVERSARY PARTIES, CONCERTS & Other Special Events, ERIE needed a PLACE to PRESENT Stage Plays & Out of Town MUSICAL Productions. So, The "STRAND THEATRE" became a COMPLETELY REDESIGNED, RENOVATED & RENAMED "ERIE PLAYHOUSE". The "THEATRE" Became a REALLY BEAUTIFUL "SHOWCASE" for Productions like "SISTER ACT", "WICKED", "SHREK: THE MUSICAL", "SCROOGE", "LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS" & other Out of Town Productions. It takes an OUTSTANDING Group of PERFORMER'S in Front & a DEDICATED Group of WORKERS behind the scenes to make...
Read moreTo start they require you to show prove of you being vaccinated. The issue isn’t that they accept just the card they want you to show ID that it’s your card. During this process the hostess was extremely rude. It felt like a complete violation of your privacy. I stated how uncomfortable I felt and the lady stated to me “Then don’t come back.” For a playhouse that needs crowd funding I felt this was very unprofessional. The entire staff were short and were to busy talking amongst themselves to serve anyone waiting for for snacks. This is called the Erie playhouse and in all honesty it’s embarrassing for Erie for the Arts center to act so entitled. If your looking for a nice place for a fancy date I do not recommend this place. The stage is small and the seating is old and plain. Nothing of this theater shouts high end or has any character to add. The play itself was okay. Felt copy and paste. No heart or thought given just memorizing the lines. There are so many better options out there for live theater! I’d give this no...
