They need to get their act together! I'm disabled, was attending the Soul2Soul concert with my friend, also disabled. The parking map the venue sent me, showed a certain lot for ADA parking. We wanted to get there early, to get a spot, and, to get something to eat before concert. TG we saw some people doing parking, who told us, it wasn't that lot (SHOWN ON THE MAP, that I received the day before!!!), who then guided us to the actual ADA parking (what turned out to be an awesome night, the concert, could have been ruined, by a ticket, or, maybe, having my car towed!).
Then, we took the ramp up to the doors, but, the only lines to get in, were at the bottom of a steep flight of stairs. I pointed out, the ADA walkway, didn't HAVE an entrance to the venue!! I saw a poor girl on crutches, with service dog, told to go down the steps, then, had to climb them again, to go through the scanning area!! Lack of proper signage, setting 'rules', then randomly changing them (what I received, said we could NOT have empty water bottles inside, but, we could take in what was medically necessary... water was, for us... they made us open, and dump out the Smart Water we'd brought (has all the electrolytes; think Gatorade), told us we couldn't have the caps, that they were 'dangerous weapons' (!!!!). But, a nice guy at the scanner handed them back to me, so we could fill up the bottles, and cap them, at the water fountain.
Then, we approached someone that, their job was giving directions to get to your seating area, she sent us, disabled people, with canes, the wrong way, 3/4 around the venue, to get to our section...
All of that was really horrible...
But, the rest, the actual concert was AMAZING!!
But, that part wasn't anything to do with Matthew Knight Arena, it was the consummate professionalism of that extremely class act, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and, their staff!
Get your act together, MKA!! Fix...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will never recommend or will never purchase an other ticket for an event at Matthew Knight Arena. I waited in line for two hours to buy tickets for the Bryan Adams concert on the day the tickets went on sale I was 2nd in line and I purchased 3 tickets and was told by the clerk that they for the front row. I was so excited as my sister and I are short and sometimes at these events we are unable to see the show. The night of the concert we went to get our seats and found out that they wasn't for the front row but in the second section of the front row. (meaning us short would not see any if the show). I was really upset as was the lady whom had purchased the tickets next to us at the same time. At this pint the show was starting and the security to to the box office and there we found out that the seats we had purchased no longer existed they had removed them and would give us different seats. We finally got tickets but not together and different area of the front row, only to find out that the seats they gave us belong to people whom had purchased them on line. The front security tried to tell us our seats was 4 rows back, I told he need to page the supervisor. It was really disappointing and embarrassing to be escorted by the security. Because of the seating mess we was unable to leave to get anything to drink or to go to the bathroom because we wouldn't be able to return to our seats without causing another scene and to be escorted to an other seat. The last straw is my sister had purchased tickets to see Bob Seger only to find out the seats she purchased from the clerk are different then the seats on the tickets. I have purchased many tickets for the moda center and Ridgefield Washington and never not got the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat place for a venue, it offers very close proximity to restaurants, hotels and transportation to and from the venue. There are a variety of events, concerts, and sporting events for all to attend.
The venue doesn't accommodate the disabled.
The venue didn't plan for designated elevators for the disabled. I'm curious what rules ADA has regarding how many elevators are required in a venue of that size to provide help for people that are physically challenged. The stairs, are many and not well lit, making it even a higher risk.
I saw people carrying walkers for their disabled friend or family member. It's very dangerous for people that have lack of mobility to be required to climb stairs, at their own risks, to attend a concert.
This reviewer witnessed several disabled people climbing carefully up and down the stairs. Unfortunately at the Mathew Knight Arena, there is no opportunity for the disabled to use an elevator at will. In fact, this reviewer witnessed someone being told they'd have to wait at least 15 minutes to get to use the only elevator, (even though it wasn't crowded at the time). The elevator was under "The Duck sign." The older woman staff person wasn't very helpful, empathetic or even kind.
The decision makers that didn't plan for elevators should realize we are not all athlete's.
I would also like to believe in equality, that is to be inclusive for the disabled so that they too enjoy a concert like anyone else. It's not a good look to have no elevators.
Ada has specific requirements for accommodating the...
