I wasn’t sure if this was a self-service restaurant because I noticed a bussing cart behind where I was sitting stacked full of dirty dishes and discarded food. It was really close to my chair where I hung my raincoat and some of the dirty dishes touched my raincoat and I was totally unaware of it until I got up to leave. It was a disgusting sight to see all the piles of dishes just as we were leaving. It would have been best if that was put away somewhere else where people are not dining. I shared a non-vegetable thali with my boyfriend. It’s definitely more than enough for two light-eaters. The butter chicken is so rich and creamy! It was worth it just for the butter chicken alone. The other chicken curry on the thali was very salty and we ended up eating only a few bites of that. The samosa was standard. The dessert was delicious, but we were too full to finish it. If we were to return, we would just stick with the crispy, hot naan and the butter chicken! Remember to seat yourself away from the dirty dishes!

This is a solid spot for Indian food with very welcoming and friendly folks (family?) running the show. It seems like they do mostly takeout orders, but they also have a shaded patio for dining in. The menu is thorough with lots of good looking curries and naans. The shrimp mushroom had excellent flavor and texture, and tons of chunky mushrooms. Nothing but praise for the saag paneer and lamb curry the other folks I was dining with ordered. Medium is a subtle but enjoyable amount of heat coming from someone with a pretty high spice tolerance. The garlic naan had strong flavor and was very tasty/complimentary to all the curries. Taste of India is an excellent, low-key spot!

It was really good. We had the Tikka masala curry, spicy, with both chicken and lamb. We also got the cheese appetizer and garlic naan. The curries were incredibly creamy, the chunks of meat were sizable and of good quality. We got both basmati rice and biryani rice as sides. I was a little worried about the raisins listed on the ingredients for the biryani but they weren't intrusive. The cheese appetizer was good, although I'm not sure I'd order it again. We ran out of naan bread as usual lol. We'll be back soon

Growing up in Eugene, my family and I have been coming to Taste of India for ages. This post is a very, very long time coming…

This long-running, multi-generational family establishment plates absolutely delectable North Indian (specifically Punjabi) specialties. One could write a PhD thesis on the molecular complexities of their scrumptious Masala or Saag bases - my two personal favorites - which can be enjoyed in vegetarian or non-veg varieties. I also love a good dunk of crispy Pakora in their creamy, tangy, oh-so-refreshing Raita to cleanse the palette after an extra spicy bite of the former dishes.

The family is so friendly and warm - and their food so mind-bendingly delicious - that they helped inspire me to visit India (including Punjab). Literally, they’re connecting me with their relatives there.

I truly admire both their culinary abilities and generosity. I cannot recommend Taste of India...
