So I just came from this restaurant. My son and myself were on motorcycles 🏍 and past by the area. I saw a food truck and grabbed me a lobster sandwich 🥪 but my son didn't want. We went in Ten Mile House and ordered him a brisket sandwich and a sprite for me.
Brisket came, like the other reviewers said, dry and chewy! Not even close to other bbq joint in Evanston I've been to.
To my surprise, the "owner" (didn't get his name) came out to our table outside, acting cool but upset that we came to sit at his restaurant with a sandwich from another establishment.
I explained to him that my son didn't want the lobster sandwich and ordered a brisket from them instead. He didn't think that it was right that I brought a sandwich from another place. I apologized to him if he got upset but we just spent money on their overpriced brisket that wasn't even that good. Not worth the price! They will expect you to eat away from your group or in my case, away from my son.
I am a nurse at Evanston Hospital a few blocks down and we usually order for takeout/delivery and most of the time, not all people will want to have something from the same place.
Bottom line, I will not be returning to Ten Mile House and will NOT be recommending to my colleagues. What a...
Read moreWe where there for a very busy night. And as far as I can tell there are two managers that run the place. The taller one is incredibly helpful to his workers, even hopping behind the bar to make drinks with them, but the other, I've never seen a Manager do less for their workers. I over heard him on multiple occasions demanding that the servers go and talk to their table about "staying to long". Umm. Hello, that's YOUR job to MANAGE this situation. Frequently getting impatient with his workers and simply abandoning them when they are in the weeds to go chat up tables while his workers flail in the middle of the rush. I saw a customer get upset about something they had ordered, and instead of walking up to the table and talking to them, LIKE ANYONE BEING PAID A MANAGER SALARY SHOULD DO, he instead went to the server and told her "talk to them and see what was wrong"
Whoever is actually running this restaurant is clearly paying the wrong person.
I asked one of the servers before I left how much this place pays them.. 5 dollars an hour. 5! This should be illegal.
The food was great, but any restaurant that treats their workers this poorly will receive no business of mine.
Fight for a living wage for the...
Read moreI would have given this place a better rating had I not gotten sick from the food. I have a gluten allergy, and our waiter did not seem very familiar with the menu options for me. He had to go back and ask many questions. I was also given the wrong sauce for my food. Again, food allergy!
I normally give grace to wait staff who ask a lot of questions to be sure I am safe, but in this case, I think I was glutened. I ate there yesterday morning and am still experiencing side effects 36 hrs later.
The real kicker is, at the end of the meal, I found out our waiter was also the owner! How do you not know your menu inside and out if you own the restaurant.
The waiter (owner) kept apologizing for the poor service he was giving us, stating they were understaffed. I understand this happens, so I am usually not bothered when they say they are short staffed because, obviously, that can not be helped. However, the restaurant was not that crowded.
Oh, and my son's fries were cold and hard.
I spent almost $80 on brunch for 3, and we didn't even drink. Tried something new, but it didn't...
