The Atlantic Contemporary — Attraction in Fernandina Beach

The Atlantic Contemporary is a powerful addition to our small beach town’s art scene. Opened by two visionary brothers, this gallery brings a fresh and meaningful presence to the area. While decorative art has long had its place here (and rightfully so), the Atlantic Contemporary offers something deeper—art that evokes emotion, invites reaction, and leaves a lasting impression on both locals and visitors.

Each visit is an experience, thoughtfully curated to challenge and connect. The work shown extends beyond surface beauty and reaches into the heart of contemporary expression.

As a high school art teacher, I’m especially grateful for their generosity and support of young artists. Every year, they open their space to my AP Art students from FBHS, giving them the incredible opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting. It’s become a cherished tradition—one that reflects the gallery’s deep commitment to both the arts and the community.

I have debated posting this review, because the previous art was so good but a large amount of people find the new art being displayed offensive, unsettling and inappropriate for our small beach community. Specifically the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus piece that looks demonic and evil. Regardless of the intent from the artists on this piece, the new artists featured do not have the same whimsical appeal or beauty and thought provoking pieces as the previous artists did. I greatly enjoy your gallery and hope to see a different piece showcased in your front window that is far less disturbing. If I do, I will happily change this review to a higher rating as your art is less offensive to our community and less distracting from our serene...
