Five of us, all local Charleston folks had the worst experience I have every experienced in a restaurant. I've eaten in some of the finest and not-so-fine restaurants from New York to New Orleans and a lot in-between, but none worse than Pier 101. We we seated rather quickly on a Saturday night, maybe that's a hint. Waitress came to the table initially rather quickly and took our drink order which consisted of waters and 3 glasses of wine. Then was MIA for quite some time, maybe 30 minutes, it appeared the wait staff was a bit understaffed from my view. After not having any contact with our waitress for a length of time one of our party went to the bar to ask for a glass of wine, upon which was told he could not be helped because our server must do that. He offered to pay cash for the wine so as not confuse their "system" but the bartender said NO, and he could complain on Yelp if he didn't like it! Our friend then went to the Hostess to ask to speak to the manager...but, before the hostess could get to the back to find him we saw the bartender hurry to the back obviously to also talk to the manager. The manager then appears at our table and was extremely rude, spoke to us in a very condescending, very loud tone; we were a bit embarrassed by his loud attitude in the restaurant. We tried to explain we had been there quite some time, maybe 45 minutes at this point, only wished to buy another glass of wine until dinner was to arrive. The manager then proceeded to ask us to leave the restaurant and when ask his hame proceeded to give us his business card! Unbelievable! I am 72 years old and have eaten at many restaurants world wide, but have never been ask to leave any establishment! To say I was shocked would definitely be an understatement. We left with but with no dinner after all this time and embarrassment, then went to Rita's nearby and had a great dinner with excellent service. Oh, and by the way, we noticed some folks at Rita's that were seated at the table next to us at Pier 101. They told us they watched the whole episode and and also left Pier 101 with no food as a response to our treatment by the manager. As I have stated, the worst experience I have ever encountered at...
Read moreI gave a 3 star because it's possible that the food is good, but I never got a chance to try it. We went into the fairly empty restaurant around 5:15pm, the hostess arrived at the stand shortly after but was not smiling or friendly... I think we interrupted the gathering of employees chatting. We were happy to be seated at a great corner table on the deck overlooking the ocean! I had seen in a newspaper ad earlier that they had happy hour drink and appetizer specials, so I asked the server. He said, "Some of the drinks are discounted, like a dollar, I think." We weren't drinking, so I asked about the appetizers. He said, "It's only drinks". I mentioned the ad I saw and he went to check. He came back about 5 minutes later to say, "It's only a few things like the eggs, the fries and the pickles, I think." I asked how much and he said, "I don't know, I just asked if any were on special". He didn't bother to go check so I just asked him to give us a couple minutes to decide what we want for dinner. He came back over 10 minutes later, with the same lack luster enthusiasm to take our order. My husband wanted the seafood basket (Fish, shrimp and oysters), and I ordered a salad and fried oysters. He said, "We are out of oysters". So, we had to look again. The menu is very minimal and we really wanted fried oysters (which were plainly on the menu), so we got up and left. Walked over to Snapper Jacks and sat on the top level and had a delicious dinner of Oysters on the half shell, hubby got his seafood platter with fried oysters and I got my salad and fried oysters. I don't understand how a restaurant that is on the ocean can run out of something so basic... especially when there are seafood markets 5 minutes away. Very slack place with employees that...
Read moreThe aroma of the food from the restaurant near the beach was tantalizing, so we decided to give it a try. After a fun time at the beach, we stopped by for lunch. Our order included wings for the table, fish tacos for my husband and me, and chicken tenders with fries for my son. The fish of the day, cobia, was a delightful surprise, and the tacos were packed with succulent fish cubes. Each topping in the taco perfectly complemented the fish, resulting in a burst of flavors. The fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, served piping hot. Although I found the chicken wings small in size and quantity, the flavor was on point. As for my son's chicken tenders, they were indeed crispy but lacked a bit of flavor, yet they were acceptable for his age. I also indulged in a Mai Tai, a departure from my usual choice, so I cannot compare it to other recipes. The setting, a pier overlooking the beach, offered a picturesque view, and the service was exceptionally friendly. Our server even informed us that the straws were made from agave and not from reused, dirty plastic, which was a...
