Folsom City Zoo is a great place to visit. Here what to know before you go: It's small, and that's a good thing. You can get through the entire sanctuary in about an hour and see every animal. That means your kiddos can walk it comfortably. It's also fairly shaded making it a great place to visit, even on got days.
It's more of a sanctuary, than a zoo. Meaning most of the animals have been rescued from bad situations, but unfortunately can't be returned to the wild. So when you visit this zoo, you're paying to give threatened animals a place to live peacefully. That being said, don't expect super exotic animals here. They have monkeys, mountain lions, tigers, and bears...oh my. (Couldn't resist, but probably should've 😉). Plus other animals native to California...oh, and wolves too!
Finally, it's a great for your budget. My wife, son, baby, and I got in for $20 bucks. Yes, $20 bucks total. If nothing else, visit this place for their mission to save mistreated animals who wouldn't survive without the support of...
Read moreAlthough everyone in our group kept calling it a zoo...THIS IS NOT A ZOO!! This is an animal sanctuary...So most of the animals are kinda "messed up". For example, the miniature horse had only one eye, one of the monkeys was prone to seizures, the lone coyote was new and too shy to come down the hill...These are animals that have been rescued...And rescued from all different kinds of places. These are the animals that, if left to fend on their own, would probably die or have difficulties surviving on their own. They are people's exotic...And often illegal pets...Injured animals found in the wild. You get the point. But for a ten dollar admission fee...You can't beat that. The bears were very sociable on this particular day. We were mesmerized by them for at least 20 minutes. My brother told the one bear he would be back to bust him out later...And where would you put him? Definitely visit this wonderful place and help support animals that truly need...
Read moreI took my family here for the first time in about 7-8 years. It has grown since we were last here. This is a great local zoo which has been here for quite some time. People need to keep in mind that this is not your typical zoo environment. This is a sanctuary where nearly all the animals here have been rehabilitated or were illegal pets. It's very much located in a natural woodland environment where you also get to see some wildlife that have decided to make their home there, including many squirrels and peacocks, which are not native wildlife but have decided to stay there. It's nice that the zoo has a backstory to most of the rescued and rehabilitated animals. Unfortunately, not all of the enclosures currently have animal exhibits and not all of the animal exhibits have signs on them so we had to try and guess what animals were in them. Overall, for $7 per person over the age of two this is well worth a visit if you are...
