This was a pleasant and unexpected stop on our trip—I didn’t get to explore the whole park, but I’m glad we found it! We had our dog with us and needed a good spot to stop after grabbing some Chick-fil-A, and this park came through.
First impressions: This place is huge—more like a sports and recreation complex than just a park. It’s close to main roads in Forney but feels peaceful and open.
Play Area: There are two large playgrounds—one great for toddlers, and the other for older kids. Both are really well-kept! I actually got to sit, relax, and eat while my 19-month-old played safely nearby without needing me to hover. There’s also a splash pad, basketball courts, a volleyball court (I saw a mom and her kids playing in the sand with toys—so clever), and a paved walking trail. Dogs are allowed on the trail but not near the playgrounds or spectator areas.
Picnic & Amenities: There’s a huge main pavilion with tons of seating, plus two more near the playgrounds. I also noticed mini soccer fields and bleachers lined up along the parking lot—very cool setup. Restrooms were easy to find, although we didn’t use them. I didn’t spot any grills, but to be fair, I only made it through about...
Read moreRead moreSunday was a fun day because our family gathered for a picnic- play date .We chose Forney Community Park 'cuz it's a "half way" meeting place from our 3 seperate hoods :) lol. The park is clean, has a fun playground, nice size basketball courts and restrooms. There's plenty of tables but sometimes some of the tables get reserved. We got there @11 & by 11:30 our prepared "chosen" table and "area" was taken from us by a park employee. He apologized while placing Reserved signs on All the tables. We moved ourselves, and our food (pot luck) to another "area" across the grass. Np. ;) Then the park employee uses a blower around kids area while we're playing.... :( our 18 mth old doesn't like LOUD noises.) Ha-ha, we're flexible tho. The wind was really strong that day too, 1/21/23. We were so grateful 2 b 2gthr- and our gumbo was good ...
Don’t get me wrong, this is a pretty park. I only gave it to stars because of the tremendous amount of unusable space. The park has a basketball court, playground, walking trails, soccer fields and a volleyball net. The park, in my opinion, could be so much cooler! About 2/3 of the park that has soccer fields that no one plays on! I have been to the park many times, and I have rarely seen anyone using the soccer fields. The park is begging for a dog park, frisbee golf, splash pad, bike trails, and putt putt. All the activities like the playground, basketball, and volleyball nets are all in one place. So you have a bunch of people in one area and then the rest of the park is unused except people walking. The park just does not make sense. It could’ve been so much cooler,...
