I really enjoyed my visit to this museum! I found that it presents enough variety that it should be approachable for the nuclear enthusiast, as well as the everyday person who might otherwise find the material daunting. I was able to get a military discount on the ticket and the ticket itself was good for two days in a row, allowing for a visitor to leave and come back if desired.

This Smithsonian-affiliated museum provides fascinating historical context for the development of the nuclear bomb, discussing efforts on the part of the Germans, Japanese, and Americans to be first to develop the bomb. The story of nuclear weapons in the Cold War, the 1950s and 1960s atomic pop culture in the US, as well as a sweeping overview of energy production, are all well-covered.

The museum tells the stories through a mixture of photographs, videos, and actual components, tools, and weapons from the various eras in nuclear history. There is also plenty of information about New Mexico’s various contributions to nuclear science and history through the years.

The outdoor heritage park, made up of aircraft, artillery, and missiles from US and Soviet-era inventories, is outstanding. As a work in progress, the heritage park will only get better.

My only recommendation for the museum is to consider having a cafe available or a partnership with some local food trucks. There is a lot to see in this museum and a person could easily spend 5 or more hours here. It would be nice to be able to get refreshments somewhere (on the day that I visited, there were no...

I went to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History for the first time. This museum is really good. I spent around 5.5 hours at the museum, and I checked everything out. I also checked out the outdoors area where they had a lot of flights displayed. All of that looked great and I enjoyed spending time there and I learned a lot about nuclear power, the Manhattan Project and everything related to nuclear science. There was a docent, Jeff, who also explained things in the museum. He was very helpful and it was nice chatting with him. It was nice learning from him. The gift shop is also great. I went to the gift shop, and I bought myself a fridge magnet. They actually had really cool earrings, science themed earrings. To me the highlight of my visit was the periodic table that they have etched onto the floor. It looks so cool. And of course all the history related to the Manhattan Project, nuclear power. It was also interesting to learn about some of the disasters related to nuclear energy and the opinion public had about it and how things changed and what is the current state of the art situation. It was interesting to learn about all of that. One of the really good museums I’ve been to! The Google maps shows ticket to be $20. For adults, the...
