This was my first time trying this restaurant. I have to say it it wasn't outstanding but is better than most places I've tried in Albuquerque. WHY DO COOKS IN ALBUQUERQUE NOT CARE AT ALL? I can cook better than this and I am not Vietnamese.
All of the dishes we ordered were acceptable but not great. All were fairly bland except for the extremely unpleasant huge hit of Thai(?) chile in the banh mi in only one or two bites.
My husband and I both ordered the banh mi and a noodle dish, and we shared an order of tofu salad rolls.
The vegan summer rolls were a lot larger than expected, which was nice, but were mostly filled with noodles. Very little lettuce or bean sprouts, no julienned carrots at all. While I do like fried tofu, I wish there was a shiitake mushroom option. Also, I absolutely can't stand Thai basil, and I couldn't remove it from my roll, as it was stuck to the rice paper wrapper. We did not discover the customization option on the takeout interface until after we got home. Next time, I will absolutely order NO Thai basil on anything. I'd also like a different dipping sauce besides the peanut one.
My banh mi was fairly good, but there was little care taken in the bell pepper prep. I had two big slabs of bell pepper on the sandwich, not a proper julienne. Come on. Take a tiny bit of care and pride in your work. Also, I had a huge thick stem of cilantro on my sandwich was not something that can be cut with teeth. It was that thick of a stem. Again, take some pride in your work. There was very little veg in my sandwich at all, just the poorly prepped bell pepper and the also poorly prepped cilantro. Hardly any cucumber or Äá» chua (pickled carrots and white radish) to be found at all. When I got to the second half of my sandwich, I got SOOOOO much chile in one bite it was ridiculously hot and not pleasant at all. What is wrong with you? Why would you do this? And finally, the last inch and a half of the sandwich had no filling on it at all. My husband ordered the lemongrass chicken banh mi. He had about the same assessment. Not enough produce, but again the poorly prepped bell pepper. Some veg is fine and prepped well. some is huge-a$$ pieces of random veg (bell pepper and cucumber), huge pieces of cilantro stem. AND the huge hit of chiles in one or two bites. Unacceptable. Our noodle bowls were both ok, but again with the poorly prepped veg. Even the ones that were uniformly sliced, the julienne was far too thickly sliced. My husband's grilled pork was rather dry.
All of the sauces were overly sweet and didn't have the depth they should have had. And there should be a choice of sauces for the salad rolls.
I stand by my rating. While it was better than almost anywhere we've tried in Albuquerque, it was not above average in the least. Why doesn't anyone care about their product here? ALSO they need MORE vegan options. There are so many vegan foods, like mushrooms, that should be offered on...
Read moreWrap n Roll is a hidden gem when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine, especially for its beef stew (bĂČ kho). The stew is rich, flavorful, and outshines many of the local competitors. The depth of flavor in the broth and the tenderness of the beef make it a dish worth returning for. On the other hand, their beef noodle soup (bun bo hue), while packed with a generous amount of meat that will leave you very full, lacks the traditional taste one might expect. Itâs hearty, but not as authentic as it could be. What makes this place even better is the warm and welcoming service. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly, making our visit enjoyable. They also offer different specials every Sunday, which adds an element of surprise and keeps things fresh. Iâm definitely planning to come back to try more of what they have to offer.
Update: Today's specials at Wrap n Rolls were a delightful dive into traditional Vietnamese flavors. The Pork Offal Porridge (ChĂĄo LĂČng) and Fermented Fish Noodle Soup (BĂșn MáșŻm) were exceptionalârich, authentic, and incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, packed with meat, making it impossible not to finish, even though I left feeling completely stuffed.
Despite the restaurant being packed, the owner and staff managed everything smoothly and with great professionalism. The atmosphere was lively but well-organized, enhancing the overall experience. If you crave authentic Vietnamese dishes, Wrap n Rolls is your go-to place. I'm already looking forward to seeing what next Sundaysâ...
