First things first. The actual escape room experience: so fun. The room was challenging and inventive - a bit of a trope for someone that is actually a witch and found some of it offensive, but the puzzles were great.
Secondly, the service: TERRIBLE. I bought tickets online through their website and NOWHERE did it ask the ages of the players or indicate that minors MUST be accompanied by an adult. Not on any of the webpages or during check out. Later, when this became an issue, my teen was able to find it in ONE place. In ONE question in the FAQ section. NO WHERE ELSE. So I paid $154 for the tickets for my teen and the friends for the birthday celebration (NON-REFUNDABLE FOR ANY REASON, BTW) only to be told when we arrived that it was MANDATORY that an adult be present with them since they were minors. And not only this, but the guy was so RUDE about it - stating it was listed "3-4 times during check out" Stinky BS. For real guys. And not only was he snotty about that, BUT then I had to PAY for a ticket for myself (someone that DID NOT WANT TO GO) just to accompany the minors into an escape room because of the "company policy" which was stated NO WHERE in the check out process or any of the main pages of their own website. Down right fraudulent in my opinion. If you're going to make it mandatory, then don't charge me and certainly don't be rude about your policy when it is LITERALLY in only ONE place on your website. And not a place I would have gone to seeing as we visited a competing escape room last year, when the group was even younger and they allowed them all to participate without an adult present.
10/10 WILL NEVER RETURN BASED ON THE EXPERIENCE WITH THIS RUDE MAN AND THE ABSURD POLICY. My teens are well-behaved 14-15 y/olds and just wanted to have fun solving a puzzle. CULTIVATE SOME CUSTOMER...
Read more“Escape This” in Frederick, MD, is a delightful way to make time go by as fast as possible, which leads me to believe that one of the three is true. Either your brain is kept so busy that you lose perspective as it relates to the passage of time, the space inside the different rooms has an incredibly low gravitational field, or upon the beginning of the countdown clock, the room is independently accelerated and maintained to a fraction of the speed of sound. I have accepted the first option (busy mind, quick time) as the most reasonable option. Options related to low gravity (the power bill would be stunningly high) and extraordinary acceleration (would simultaneously result in the mass of the room increasing as well as vaporization of the room and participants due to atmospheric friction) feel counterintuitive to any reasonable business practices. So, yeah, the rooms are challenging, and the scenarios are creative. Pay attention during the briefing and actively listen to everything said. There may or may not be pertinent information provided, but paying attention when someone is taking the time to speak to you is polite.
A note to the young couple who went before us: Nudging and giggling during the briefing probably contributed to your failure and, therefore, the loud argument in the parking lot after you failed to escape. Embrace the experience as a metaphor for life. Oh, and dude, “Yeah, yeah, I got it.” is not the catchphrase of the competent. She will replace you with someone better.
So, in summary. It is fun and mentally engaging (without the hazards of the laws of gravity or thermodynamics), and it is an excellent way to see if your boyfriend...
Read moreThis is my favorite escape room place in Frederick. Tonight me, my fiancée, and two friends completed the "haunted" room with five minutes left. It had an awesome story, great environment, fun puzzles, and the perfect amount of spooky effects. We have completed almost every room, and will definitely be back to finish the rest. I highly recommend this place for family's, friend groups, and double dates. The staff are super welcoming and friendly. They gave us a 10 minute demo of the new vr experience that i assumrd would be gimmicky and wouldnt be something I would enjoy, how wrong I was. We played the zombie mini game, didnt feel any motion sickness, and had an absolute blast. From the moment we put the headsets on we couldn't help but be mindblown by the immersion of seeing our avatars and the hordes of zombies swarming us in all directions. My group is looking forward to trying one of their virtual escape rooms. I'm racking my brain to try to find something negative and I can't think of...
