This little place has become a second home as I commute from the Pennsylvania border to Germantown about 4 - 5 times a week. I love the Vietnamese "standards" like pho; beef-stuffed grape leaves, lemongrass chicken over rice noodles. But quickly have been tempted to move on to the whole fish dishes and shrimp. I have a number of food allergies, so everyone is fantastic about keeping peanuts away from me, and briefing me about new dishes and their ingredients. Salt is also a consideration, so, again everyone is great about doing crazy things for me by reducing the rich broth and sauces. The food is fresh and vegetables plentiful. Presentation is exquisite. Creative. Desserts are really special, with things I've never seen before like sorbets in a half coconut or half of a pineapple. And, because the portions are very generous, I often go home with two meals for the next day. I'm old and a bit crippled, but, in all weather, I am greeted and helped. I have never felt rushed, and the restaurant has been a place of refuge for me. And the people who frequent the corner must feel the same way, as often we ask about what someone else ordered -- then order it ourselves! Regulars will help you with suggestions. I think you can tell a whole lot about a place, too, by how the carry-out people are treated. And, again, Tin is an island of positivity and calm. I love the bright, cheery orange paint, too, and all the plants. Both awards given to the restaurant are well deserved. It's the food. It's the people! It's the friendly service! Small family operated -- and it's easy to become part...
Read moreWe have enjoyed the food here several times in the past and have recommended it to others. Last night was a big change. We ordered Uber eats because it was too hot to sit outside with our dog as we love to do at this restaurant. All three dishes we ordered were quite disappointing. As I then read reviews both here and elsewhere. It seems that they are quite inconsistent. We definitely had one of the bad nights. The vegetable hot pot had no diced fried tofu in it at all. None. The shrimp fried rice was basically white rice with soy sauce with eight shrimp that were way overcooked. Nonother vegetables. Not worth the money. And the teriyaki chicken was maybe half a chicken breast. Every time we dined here before we’ve had plenty of leftovers. Only half of the container was used last night for that dish. And it was not tasty. The chicken was dry and overcooked. Quite disappointing and we will be doing a lot of thinking before we go back. Or maybe we should just ask who’s in the kitchen that night? Consistency is one of the most important things about success in the...

I've gotten meals from y'all a dozen or more times, but was very disappointed today. We got the tofu and string beans, combo fried rice and a kids chicken dish with noodles. The string beans in the tofu dish were barely cooked and still very tough. The fried rice in both the combo and a side order tasted more like plain white rice as there was no flavor. The chicken in the combo had no flavor either and just looked like it was boiled. It was hard to tell if the chicken in the kids dish was even cooked all the way. The spring rolls we got seemed to have cinnamon in them and were dripping with grease.
I'm extra disappointed because normally this is some of the best food we can get in Frederick, and we know y'all can do much better, but tonight was...
