Starting with the positives, the two bowls are good and seem to be well received by the community, although the overall design of the park is not that great and honestly kind of boring. There is lots of wasted space. For the size of the park you would expect more obstacles, instead it feels spaced out and kind of empty. There is also a lot of repetition, specifically with the brick banks and the down rails. There are five down rails in the park and they really kind of mirror each other in height and slope. The height of the hubbas are kind of off as well. The only normal flatledge is outside of the park on the sidewalk, while the flatbar is right on the edge of the smaller bowl (common placement for a Team Pain build but oddly positioned nonetheless). There is also a tiny manual pad next to the A-frame, both of which are identical to the ones built at the new Fruita park, adding to the redundancy.
The ski jump at the bottom of the three block is oddly positioned, essentially making it a four block. The euro is big and abrupt, but some like that. There is also a randomly tall out ledge with a circle cut out, not sure what purpose this serves, maybe geared more towards BMX or something. Team Pain has built some really great parks, like Arvada, Huntsville, and Fredricks, but it seems like its hit or miss when dealing with them, and unfortunately this one represents a miss and a fumbled opportunity for the city to build something great. I was surprised to learn they spent 3 million on it. If you’re stuck skating it, it is not terrible, though I would say it’s not really worth a stop on any trips, given that there are some amazing parks outside of the Grand Valley in all directions: Vail, Gypsum, Provo, West Jordan, and Eagle Mountain, just...
