The hostess was slightly rude to me when I entered, my wife was seated prior to me arriving because I needed to do a quick thing on main Street before they closed. She didn't give me any direction and told me to find her myself. The people I went in front of obviously didn't know this, but they made a lot enough statement to be heard around "did he go in front of us?" In a judgemental attitude, as an individual eating at the restaurant I don't think that's a generally acceptable way of thinking. I did make mention loud enough about my wife already being seated, but it wasn't handled properly.
I'm 6'6" and the traditional seating, which was recently rug washed was still wet,and I could not get my muscular legs underneath the table properly either. It was incredibly difficult and the table is booked into the ground which makes anyone of a specific size incapable of experiencing that. Though, genetics and biology play a significant factor in this particular role.
The server we had was exceptional and has a huge heart. If you have Hiro, you have been blessed, you can feel the passion for individuals in his heart going into yours. My wife explained a similar experience.
Lastly I got diarrhea the following day, and I didn't order any fish, which leads me to believe that the kitchen isn't following the strict food safety guidelines that all restaurants, including mine, follow. This leasing me to believe that cross contamination was the source as my wife didn't order sushi but I did. That day in general I didn't eat much else the entire day based on my schedule not having time for it.
The only other thing I could say is upon entering, it smells like cleaning supplies, which is a turn off. As someone who has a massive cultural cuisine diversity and one who very much enjoys food. This shop should not, by any means be as busy as it is, for the multi-day wait my wife and I had.

Read moreFirst time to Suehiro in a while. For the price, it is probably the best sushi & Japanese food on the Western Slope. There are other places in town that have good sushi but have inflated prices compared to Suehiro. Tonight was no different. We started with the Gzoya dumplings appetizer, which is always tasty. The only change I would make to the dish is to pan sear the bottoms of them for an added crunch / texture. After the appetizer; we ordered Dynamite Shrimp, the Yellowfin Poké bowl, and five sushi rolls: KA, CY29, Rainbow, Las Vegas, and Red Ninja. I could probably eat Dynamite Shrimp every day; it's that good. There were several of the rolls we've tried before, but we're trying the CY29 and the Red Ninja for the first time. Both did not disappoint. The CY was chock full of goodness, with spicy crab and mango on top for a savory / spicy / sweet taste explosion. The Red Ninja was even better with spicy tuna, scallions, and miso sauce, placing it in our top 5 rolls we've tasted here in the GJ area. The only two "complaints" we had tonight were that our server "went missing" for a good portion of the meal, leaving our beverages empty most of the evening, however she did take good care of us when she was present. The other is the design of the restaurant's entrance, especially in the winter. When people enter and leave the restaurant, the dining area is blasted with cold air, so much so that we know to leave our coats on for the entire meal. Minor issues for a near perfect dining experience. We have enjoyed every visit to Suehiro and will be back again. 4.5...
Read moreOur family has come to Suehiro for both special occasions or a quick bite for over 10 years now. The food and service is reliable, and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. If you've traveled the US, and tried many sushi restaurants, you will find this one "passable" at best. They over-mayonaise the rolls, and have a single, brown sauce the chef tends to put on everything. Many of the fried dished are consistently way over-cooked (specifically the tempura and the sweet shrimp dishes). The sushi rice is always a little on the dry side. Be cautious which tuna dishes you order. They do use Escolar (also known as tuna escolar, or white tuna), so read the menu ingredients lists carefully. The taste of their green tea has improved in the last few years. In the past, it tasted like they were using bad tap water. Our biggest gripe is the Uni - or more specifically - the lack thereof. It remains on the menu, but no matter what day of the week or time of year, there is always just an excuse, and they are always "out." If it's a weekday, the chefs say, "oh we had a busy weekend." If it's a Saturday night, the chefs say, "oh, we had a busy week." There's a rumor locally that only "special customers" get the uni, when it's in. If that were true, after 10 years of coming in at least 15 times per year, we would expect to eventually see a serving or two. The chefs know us by face, if not by name. In short: if an establishment is unwilling, or unable, to get a specific seafood, it should be taken off the menu. Period. Great local stop, if you know what to order and...
