This store is great. The owners are incredibly nice and attentive. They really get to know their patrons and help them out with their gaming goals. The jesters court has a friendly atmosphere conducive to a great gaming experience. Overall I rate their staff 100%, their player base is hit or miss, the owners are, however, great at policing their patrons. I have 1 major critique; the legacy format prize support. As far as I understand some guy buys a box of whatever the newest set is in standard and that's what the winner gets. The store does pay out to the rest of the top 8; but they do so only in standard packs. From the perspective of a long time legacy player, a legacy player does not benefit from standard garbage. If jesters would at the very least put up store credit for the prize pool, there would be a stronger growth of the legacy format. If you put the effort into building a legacy deck you want to play a venue that supports your format with the prize pool. In simple terms you are paying 10 dollars on this tournament and you want that money to be an investment in your deck if you do well enough to make that money back in prizes; generally standard does not do that. One major benefits of running legacy tournaments is you can put up those high dollar singles that do not have a quick turnover rate as prize support. So essentially you are selling singles for a tournament. At the least you can offer store credit for magic cards only and you are making the money back either way. Altogether I like the store, but the prize structure for any tournament should be payed in store credit, that way you can get what you want not crappy packs of...
Read moreI waited to give them a review until I could sit down and take the time to summarize the experiences that I've had here, both with the friendly staff and the diverse crowds that they bring in with their atmosphere. TLDR at the bottom.
Starting with the staff at Board Fox; they have to be some of the friendliest people I've ever met. They are always happy to give advice or provide recommendations and will point you in the right direction. No matter what you need the staff here will truly above and beyond to help you in any way that they can. Being very personable, they really make you feel welcome every time that you walk through the front door (or the back).
The atmosphere is definitely unique. I'm most familiar with the board game night that they host on Wednesdays, where family's and friends can get together (for no charge) and play any one of a plethora of board games that they have on hand ranging in skill level from beginner to "I had no idea that playing a board game would require a college degree". The people who come here regularly are very open to newcomers and they really make you feel like you fit in. I should know, I knew absolutely nobody the first time that I showed up. They welcomed me in and guided me through all kinds of interesting games.
Did I mention they have nitro coffee here?
TLDR; Outstanding staff, hospitable environment, and a palatable coffee bar. If you are looking for a board game, a place to bond with friends and family, coffee, or something more, I would immensely recommend stopping by Board Fox...
Read moreWhile the service was friendly enough as was the atmosphere. I was very disappointed to the change they have for magic the gathering singles. I have traveled between Michigan and Colorado many times. We always make it a event to stop in ( even though it is four hour drive out of our way.).
Part of the exsprince is engaging with the staff and the convenience able to pick up a couple of cards right there. Now with the switch for it be completely computerized loses that human aspect. I only needed two cards, so it wasnt as if i needed a 100 card list. It would seem thats a loss of business for any one who does not live near by.
While i do like the the staff, i could have just Bought these cards from TCGplayer. I wanted to take the time to stop in your shop and support your shop. Unfortunately with these changes to your policies in magic the gathering singles, we will not be returning 😢. It was fun while it lasted fox, here is hoping you return being the friendly MTG shop we...
