Very overpriced (details below), and very bad experiences both times I've been there.
The employees were rude and unhelpful. I seemed to receive a lukewarm welcome as an adult without children, and when I tried to joke with the employees as a fellow AFOL (Adult Fan Of Lego) , their attitudes turned decidedly hostile. One employee stared rudely at me after I asked a friendly question, then walked away without answering. They weren't only rude to me -- since there were no employees out on the floor, I ended up answering a few people's questions and helping some kids find what they wanted, rather than the actual employees helping them. Both times when I checked out with slightly overfilled Pick-a-Brick containers (which is not only common but is actually recommended by employees at REAL Lego stores), I received rude comments about "trying to cheat them." Seriously? You're employees. You don't make less money if I get a dozen extra scratched-up Lego parts that I'm overpaying for anyway.
Additionally, any somewhat-experienced Lego buyer can see that their prices are outrageous. You can drive 2 miles to a Target or Walmart and get many of their sets for 75% of the price. For the ones that aren't in stores anymore, you can go on eBay or Bricklink and get them for 50%-75% of the price. For the minifigures, you can get them on eBay or Bricklink for 50% of the price, almost without exception (even the current series of Collectible Minifigures, available nearly everywhere, are $6 apiece instead of the $4 retail price). Besides Pick-a-Brick, I have no idea why anyone would shop here when they could get on their smartphone and order the same product for much less online.
TL;DR: you can get nearly everything they have much more cheaply online. In addition, my experiences were ruined by rude and unhelpful employees who seemed to resent the fact that an adult entered their store...
Read moreI genuinely and truly wanted to love this store. But I just couldn't. I will say that they do have some pretty unique lego sets, I'll give them that. Ill be honest, if I had seen their price point before I had made the 4 hour drive to visit the store, I never would have made the drive to begin with. I completely understand that older sets and discontinued sets are way more valuable and I respect that type of price increase. But charging double the sales price on sets that aren't even discontinued? That's just appalling, you can blame it on shipping, you can blame it on the economy, whatever I don't care. If I can drive across the street to walmart just the same as you and pick up the exact same lego set for genuinely half the price. Shipping isn't the problem. Stuff like this is the reason official brands don't license their products to small companies. It absolutely kills the buyers faith in that brand. I didn't want to leave the store without buying something. But after some online price matching and comparison of other local stores, I would have made myself sick leaving this location with something for the price I would have paid. This store is the exact reason mom and pop shops are dying, I understand inflation completely. But I have 0 respect for price gouging. The item below is 49.99 at every major retailer, and...
Read moreThis was a pleasant shock to find in Grand Junction. It is a small space that offers lots of boxed sets and large bin of used bricks. The bin is pretty deep and the suggestion is to scoop out bricks and place them on a lip and select what you want. Not that efficient for my liking. However, the strength of this place is their inventory. I was looking for a specific colored brick and they had about 30 and I bought them all. Certainly worth a premium, or at least what you would pay online with shipping included. They had a decent selection of Mini Figs and a separate “top self” of really rare characters. I was pleased that the guy at the counter noticed that the Iron Fist I was buying was not I great condition and he discounted it by $4. Thanks for that, I may not have noticed. There is an impressive build in the middle of the store of a detailed castle that should make most people happy to gawk into. So this is the only one of these stores, apparently, in the world. It was a good experience that beats the Limited experience of the mall orientated...
