I have a 2 year old 6 pound Yorkie that has Patellar luxation (3rd Degree) (Knee Cap Displacement) who is going to need surgery. This is upsetting enough. My boyfriend took him in for the initial diagnosis. This surgery is expensive, how expensive? Who knows we couldn't get a solid answer. First we were told $1000, then later, "no that's just the surgery, that doesn't included XXXXXX" After 2 hours of "hurry up and wait" my boyfriend got frustrated and left. So this morning I call to try to get some answers, I find out that my dog didn't see his normal Vet, and I ask to talk to Dr. Schwartz because she has always seen my pets and we are comfortable with her matter of fact communication and our dogs love her to pieces. Well I was told by the person who answered the phone that because another Vet did the diagnosis I should not switch doctors because Dr. Schwartz didn't recommend the surgery and if we switched then we would have to have another consultation. What? Dr. Schwartz can read the damn file and talk to her colleague. Then I tell him I need to know costs etc because the surgery is a lot of money and we don't have that kind of money just waiting for a vet emergency, he's response was to try and sell me Dog Insurance. Are you kidding me!!!?? My dog needs surgery, I'm stressed to the hills, I'm told I can't talk to the doctor we are comfortable with because that wasn't the doctor who diagnosed our dog and now you want to sell me something that isn't going to help my current situation. Last night they tried to charge us for two test doing the exact same thing one in house and one sent out. Why? We were told, "well it's not really needed, the one sent out is just more detailed" Seriously?!!! Then send it out but don't charge me for the in house one if you can't be detailed in house. They wanted to do xrays, but told us, we'll do more before surgery that you'll be charged for. Why do them now if your going to charge us again later before surgery? We love Dr. Schwartz, I just can't deal with Simmons anymore. They used to be semi-reasonable price wise, but now it's like buying a car. "Here is your "base" price lets see how much we can add on before the client walks...
Read moreCame here to do the impossible, and it was to put my dog down, I came in ready to do it, since I figured that he is probably suffering with his age getting the best of him, plus his anal gland ruptured, and his paw with a tumor. HOWEVER, Dr. Diaz entered the room, an angel.
Not only was she compassionate, professional, and loving, but she was also very honest and caring. She gave me a few alternatives instead of parting ways with a family member. She suggested a few blood tests and alternative medications. Needless to say, my old dog is doing better and still alive. Thank you for helping us with a very hard decision that had positive outcomes.
