Such a treat to be able to sail right out of 'downtown' Mystic! The weather was beautiful and the speaking sailor 'mate' was clearly very knowledgeable about the area and shared lots of stories and tidbits about what we were viewing. It was a little cumbersome finding the actual spot the boat leaves from in relation to the parking area. Also the office is where your gps might lead you but then there's a sign giving you directions on walking to the dock. They probably could tell you to gps to the store right next to the drawbridge (Mystic Sweet Shop) and it would be more helpful. We ordered the cheese and cracker set ahead of time. It was handed to us in a small gift bag. The contents were great; almond crackers packets, spreadable cheese, olives in a packet etc. We also brought a small cooler with more snacks and our adult beverages. It was a little chilly on the boat and they handed out small blankets to us, which was appreciated. The speaking-sailor-mate gave us very clear safety instructions about where not to stand and also how to use the ladder to the lower deck and the 'head.' I could have stayed out on that boat with the quiet-nature of sailing for hours! This may be picky but it would be great if they had small cup holders and maybe trays mounted to the deck so that the snacks don't have be juggled while you are enjoying leisure time.
I would...
Read moreSave your money. This is genuinely not worth the money at all. I’m shocked this place has 4.8 stars for nothing. You’re just in the middle of the water looking and boats and homes. We did not get close to any other island and sailed out in the open looking at things from a very far distance. The history lesson was LITERALLY exactly 4 MINUTES out of the entire 2 HOURS. Free water and lemonade was nice. Then they had the audacity to leave out a tip jar with a purposely placed $20 bill already propped up in it to get you to tip for absolutely nothing but floating along the water. The best seats is not in the front- it’s the D sections since it’s higher elevated to see over the railing & open space for views and photos. The A & B section view is blocked by the boat’s sails and poles. It took 45 to get out of the mystic river into the long island sound and same amount of time back so you can imagine that you really did nothing. I took this tour at 9:30am. This tour might be better at sunset since there’s nothing to see or learn about on this tour anyway you might as well at least see the sunset in the water. Even though it was calm and relaxing, it was disappointing and really boring for $65 each. The $33.00, 30 minute boat tour along the mystic river with the other company in town would probably be better...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I took the sunset cruise on a beautiful night, and the boat was pretty much at capacity. You wait like 15 minutes to get on after check in, and then after a quick safety briefing you set sail. It takes awhile to get out of the no wake zone (but many cool boats and yachts to look at while you’re slowly passing by), but once you’re out and they put up the sails, it’s just an awesome experience. They explain the folklore of the different islands, buildings, and lighthouses, and offer complimentary water and lemonade. They’re also pretty funny guys. My boyfriend is prone to sea sickness and he had no problem at all. He was even drinking (which you can do as well- BYOB but no hard alc). We suggest finding a nearby side street to park instead of wherever they suggest. We suggest getting the seats at the front if you can, we were A5/A6 and it was the best seat...
