We’ve been coming here for 12 or so years, this latest visit left me feeling things have gone downhill a bit. To start, each year I’m sent a 20% off coupon and each year I book my weekend getaway and use it. For whatever reason, this year I’m told (upon check in) that I can only use the 20% during the week. I told the lady that when I booked my stay, I was told I could use the coupon. I also told her I’ve always used it for weekends and that really should be something that is stated on the coupon (otherwise it feels like you’re just making up your own rules to not let me have a discount). Next, I am told the common area is closed and now food will be delivered to the room, ok that makes sense with our current pandemic situation. So I call down for some soda and am told they only had diet and weren’t really ordering much more soda in order to limit what they bring to peoples rooms. Ok, I get closing the common area off but now you’re limiting your offerings? Next I ask the woman for some water and I’m told it’s $2 a bottle. What??? What used to be free and part of the hospitality of staying here is now $2 a bottle? And the little bottles too. I then notice they added a wine dispenser in our room for the low price of $11 per glass. So not only are they offering water for $2 but they want people to pay $11 for a glass of wine. You would think if the common area had to be closed off for safety reasons, they would just stock your fridge with beverages and leave some snacks in the room. Nope. Lastly, they give you a menu to circle what you’d like brought to your room for breakfast. I circled 2 items for myself since I usually go up for seconds (when the common area was open). I was called by front desk and told I can only get one breakfast per person. Also the coffee was terrible both days and when I asked for a fresh pot it was still terrible, they must have it sitting there getting burned from early in the morning. At this point I have to believe it’s no longer concern for peoples safety that all these changes are happening and more to do with using Covid as an excuse to cut back on expenses while keeping room prices the same. Overall the place feels more corporate now. For anyone planning on staying, bring your own water and snacks and if you enjoy your morning coffee, hit up a local cafe. To the Steamboat, you can put safety precautions in place while not...
Read moreFantastic early overnight stay for Valentine’s Day ! We chose the Annie Wilcox room for our first time staying at the Steamboat Inn as our first choice was already taken. Sandra texted us that our room was available 2 hours early and she was wonderful getting us an extra log for our fireplace and ordering our take out dinner for us at The Mariner. Even getting me a bacon cheeseburger I was craving that wasn’t on the menu. Over and beyond customer service here ! Location is wonderful even in off season, you can walk everywhere. Some stores were closed but we found plenty of stores to wander around and grab a cocktail or two. We had a fireplace room and it snowed while we were there and it was just magical being on the river. Complimentary breakfast in the morning was wonderful as was 24/7 coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Our only two complaints would be that we thought it was weird at breakfast they only gave us one piece of toast to share and we had to cut it in half ourselves lol. Not a deal breaker whatsoever but just weird. And then again not a deal breaker but I think the furniture in the Annie Wilcox could use a refresh. Seemed a little old and tired even for a rustic Inn. Would definitely come again in the off season, price was great !
Thanks again !...
Read moreFirst a big shout out and "Thank You" to all the staff of the Steam Boat Inn - this is my first time since March going anywhere due to a compromised immune system and from the time we checked in I have felt very comfortable and can see the safety precautions they have taken. I applaud all of Staff for everything you they are doing. Upon arrival we choice to do virtual check in and our keys and a hand sanitizer that is made by the Steam Boat Inn was in a sealed envelope. Our room was very cleaned and the remotes we enclosed in a sealed bag. Breakfast which is order prior to check-in was delivered outside our door. Breakfast itself was excellent. We love the cinnamon scones and they even included a couple for us.
This time we stayed in the Early Dawn room. We are truly enjoyed the view from this room and in the evening, it was nice to have an over-sized tub to relax in. The kitchenette was stocked with coffee, tea and water.
We are already booked for a return stay in September and for that stay we are staying in the "Summer Girl" room. That will be 5 rooms we have tried - if I had to pick a favorite it would be very tough but for this time of year it would be the Early Dawn and for the winter months it would be The...
