As an avid fishing and outdoor enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bass Pro Shop, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. There is a variety in the store. That’s worth a star.

-2 stars for the lady standing behind a counter laughing and rubbing my arm after I asked where a product was. She said that she didn’t work at the store but that she worked for- and then I stopped listening and walked away. There was four other people working at the store (but apparently not for the store) trying to sell me a vacation package. They were posted at the only staircase to the second floor so that you had to walk past all of them in order to even get to the stairs. Again, these people did not work for the store and one of them touched me without my consent with a smile in front of other “non-staff” and a guest.

-2 stars when actually finding someone in the “green shirt” who worked there. They had no idea what a “gaiter” was and only knew that footwear was upstairs when explained the concept of the item. There was about one employee for every other customer in the store. All of them fumbling around, back and forth trying to answer questions, or check in the back. Only manager type in a white shirt was posted up in the back corner of the store looking busy by walking back and forth pretending to stock items.

Went in the store happy to purchase several hundred dollars worth of equipment. Saw suitable supplies for about 1/3 of my search and knew the rest could probably be found on the website. Was really considering going back until the weird people trying to sell me a vacation touched me and then I couldn’t find very basic outdoors gear to keep a persons feet dry.

In all my 35 years as a consumer, I can confidently say I have never had a shopping experience as exceptional as the one I had today. I’m not usually someone who leaves reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience because of one extraordinary employee: Gio.

From the moment I interacted with Gio, it was clear that he wasn’t just doing a job—he was genuinely invested in helping me. He was the most pleasant, patient, and kind individual I’ve ever encountered in a retail setting. But what stood out most was his incredible knowledge and passion. I was shopping for my son-in-law, who is an avid fisherman, and I admittedly know nothing about fishing equipment. Gio not only guided me with expertise but also taught me—offering helpful tips that I could share with my son-in-law to improve his success in the local fishing spots.

What truly blew me away was the extra effort Gio put into ensuring I made the right choice. He willingly spoke with my daughter on the phone to get a better sense of my son-in-law’s setup, making sure the equipment I purchased would complement what he already has. Who does that? Gio didn’t just help me buy a gift—he helped me choose something meaningful and practical, all while making me feel valued and supported throughout the entire process.

I don’t think words can fully capture just how great this experience was or how exceptional Gio is at his job. He is the very definition of going above and beyond, and I sincerely hope he gets the recognition he deserves for his outstanding service.
