Sandy Bottom Nature Center — Attraction in Hampton

It is a nice nature center, not as interactive for kids as compared to the one at Newport News Park, nor did the staff jump out of seats to say hi. It does, however, have lots of reptiles and amphibians in nice exhibits. They do, also have life jackets and boats to rent if one wants to go out on the lake/large pond. Nearby, there is a playground just the right size for kids with pavillions and a bathroom facility right there. Behind the nature center is a trail that can go around the lake or branch off and has a dog park right next to the dock. I would go again to explore the many trails if I had the time being that it is over 400 acres. At the center there were at least 4 handicap...

Very beautiful park with nicely maintained trails. Unfortunately there's a little poison ivy right at the sides of the trails, which my dog was very happy to go roll around on 🙄. I also found a tick on myself when I got home, however had I remembered to spray bug spray on the soles of my shoes that probably would not have happened since ticks don't fall out of trees. This is one of the best parks in Hampton Roads! There are trails all throughout the park, there are boats to rent, fishing in designated spots including a nice pier to fish from. There are campsites and yurts to rent. Dog park and and a playground, the Nature Center is so awesome, and the staff is knowledgeable and quite nice.
