Ali‘i Sunset Plaza — Attraction in Hawaii

BUYERS BEWARE! ABSOLUTELY DO NOT SHOP HERE! We are here on a family vacation and decided to shop at this plaza and other places...as we were approaching the vehicle to head back to our condo, the attendant placed a parking penalty on our windshield and say there was nothing he could do once he printed the penalty. The attendant is not an employee of the plaza but a parking services company (Diamond Parking Services). This company refused our appeal for even a reduction since we arrived right at the ticketed time and because our rental vehicle was involved with a previous penalty with another rental party. This shopping plaza didn’t have many shoppers and now we know why...they employ a company to police their lot that deters people from spending money at their plaza. We will never shop there again on our many travels to the Big Island and make sure all our friends and family pass this...

We enjoyed eating at the Thai Rin restaurant which is right on the beach road, Ali'i. There are some tables outside in front and the ocean is across the street. Chicken pad Thai is usually very good. They have vegetarian offerings, too. I see people complaining about parking and tickets. This entire marketplace has a very large, free parking area between all the buildings and the street just mauka (towards the mountain). That street is called Kuakini. They have parking entrances off Kuakini which is very easy to see. There is also parking south of the buildings (towards the volcano direction) but the entrance is easily missed and far too much traffic to access if driving south on Ali'i. Avoid their parking area at all cost. Signs say 2 hr free parking for the plaza. We parked there and 15 min later they already left us a parking ticket for $56. When I called them, the lady on the phone was very rude and said that we didn’t go to their shops and they watch everyone on cameras and they automatically give you ticket, even though on the way back we did shop at their stores. Lady on the phone from diamond parking was very rude and hanged up the phone. Don’t deal with them at all. Please read other yelp reviews that say the same thing, I just wished I read them before we parked there. Will never shop or go to any of their businesses in that plaza. Way to...
