We stayed here for a week. The campground is on the northeast end of Holbrook. There are two parallel one-way entrances lanes to the campground: use the right lane to pull up next to the office and check in. Except for four back-in sites that seem to belong to longer-term residents, all of the RV sites are pull-throughs with gravel pads, gravel yards and picnic tables. Most sites have full-hookups as well as cable connections: a very few have just water and electric (and cable), while the sites marked on the map as being extra long might not have cable. Individual site amenities vary a great deal. Some sites have waist-high pine trees along the border, some have fences between sites, and some have adjacent tree (all sites are open to the sky, though) Some sites have patios that simply have chairs; others come with a gas-powered grill. A few patio and patio-free sites have a pergola, and some sites have small dog pens. Site 66 (likely because the campground is just off of old Route 66) is the ultimate site with a large patio area with a grill and pergola surrounded by a privacy fence. There are also a number of tent and cabin sites. We stayed in site 50, which was the last site on the east end of our row. All east end sites have a tall fence wall on the right side of the site, likely to block some of the light and sound from I-40 across the way. Our site wasn't long enough to fit our 21-foot truck and 37-foot fifth wheel front to back, but it was a designated wide site so we easily fit our truck between the camper and the fence. Our site was level, and the hookups were all near the back. The office building has a decent-sized souvenir and convenience store, with a laundry room located on the side of the building and bathrooms located in the back. There is a large playground on the west side of the office with a single basketball hoop and horseshoe pit, and beyond that is the swimming pool. Across from the office is the propane refill station, the dump station, and a communal area with a large petrified log and a small walk-up restaurant where they serve pancakes and host cowboy cookouts in season. There is also a second bathhouse at the back of the campground; all bathrooms are secured with keypad codes. The best places to walk dogs are either along the dirt pet walk area on the east side of the campground or in the fenced dog park on the west side. The dog park has a grass and dirt surface without any of the usual KOA agility equipment (which means a bit more open space), a single bench, and no dedicated lighting. In terms of cell service, the best bandwidth I saw on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna showed 16 Mbps down and 12 up, and other than very occasional buffering I had no problem working and streaming video. The best speed I saw on my AT&T smartphone with 5G was 86 down and 18 up. I tried out the campground WiFi the morning we left and got 3.5 down and just 1 up. If you're a light sleeper, you may struggle here: I-40 is visible from the east and south sides of the park, and you can faintly hear the semi-trucks as they pass by as well as the occasional train. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

Price is on par with a cheap hotel. The package I chose was $40/night. Includes a tent site with electricity, a bbq, an out door warmer, space to park 1 vehicle. A shed with a double sink-running water. There is also a swimming pool and rest rooms with showers. Multiple picnic tables in the tent area and large enough space to park an 8 person tent. What I don’t like. The restroom looks clean, but smells. The bbq was not emptied out from the prior user. On the other side of the privacy fence on one side - are sprinklers that start every other hour, all day and night. The location is close to the I40 Freeway. You can hear the traffic on it. What I do like. The price. The proximity to the freeway. Exit 289 on I40. The amount of shade offered at the tent sites. Very nice. The rv’s have zero shade. The swimming pool looked nice. The tent sites skirt around the rv sites, so there is privacy. I also like that they have a fence pet area and it is far away from the camp areas. No smelly grass. The grass belt for individual bbq away from the tent sites does not allow pets on it. Be prepared to figure out how to leave your dog when you bbq. I think the only ones who need to worry about that are day campers. Our camp site was pretty big. We had plenty of room to unload our truck and reload it. Quite a bit as we are interstate home moving. This was a good place for us to stop and be able to keep an eye on our personal belongings. Not have to worry about our stuff on a truck in a hotel parking lot.

We stayed in the RV park area. * Our Lot #: 106 * Length of your RV: 44ft, 62 ft total * Month & Year You Stayed? April 2021 * Concrete, Asphalt or Gravel Lot? Gravel/dirt * Paved Access Road? Yes * Full Hookups Including Sewer? Yes 50 amp * Cell Service good/which carrier? Verizon & TMobile used & good! * Fire Ring/Picnic Table? Table * Cable TV Provided? Yes but fuzzy * Laundry Facility? Yes but looked very dated & expensive- see pics. * Scenic/Trees/Waterfront? Parking lot basically * Spacing of Lots? Fair * Good Mgmt/Rules Enforced? Seem to - only stayed 3 nights * Pool/Swimming/Fishing/Trails? Pool was not open yet *Pet Friendly? Dog park *Nearest Town/Groceries? Across town - Safeway *Rate Amount Paid? $55/nt with KOA card - pricey! *Other Issues/Pluses/Sights/Suggestions? The huge benefit this place is that it is close to Petrified National Forest. It’s basically a gravel parking lot sectioned off into lots - so don’t have high expectations. The laundry room is incredibly dated and costly ($.75 for 10 minutes!). Cable included but a lot of the stations were fuzzy. We had an extra wide, full hookup lot. Had to unhook and park tow vehicle next to camper to fit. Have a decent store in the check in area that has all of the basics.

We are a big rig 70ft and spots advertised as 100ft we hung out on both ends about 1/2 foot. Easy in and out. We were parked on the interstate side and I am a very light sleeper. The noise was so minimal that it was not an issue. Their sites are all gravel including the premium deluxe (see photos). Tables are offered at all sites but gas grill only offered at deluxe but you can request one. Not an issue, we had our own. Our front tires were up off the ground after leveling. They are in the process of renovations, it is going to look great. They even had some pergolas up at some sites. There are small ~6ft sized trees that at some point will provide trees. The dog area needs the most improvement. It is dirt and there are signs saying keep dogs off grass area so the only option is to let your dog go in the dirt. We did not use the bathrooms or laundry. The little store is cute and offers some essential items. Staff was very friendly. I was concerned about theft after reading other reviews but we had no issue here either. We would stay here again but at a premium deluxe site with the patio and fence partition. We did stay during covid and they are a little more lax than New Mexico but face masks are required.

We stayed at the Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA Journey as a base to explore Petrified Forest National Park, and it turned out to be a convenient and comfortable stop. The campground is located just off I-40, making it easily accessible for travelers. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. We appreciated the full hookups and the spacious pull-through sites, which accommodated our 36-foot Super C RV, The Badger, and our towed Jeep Wrangler, Bluebelle, with ease. The campground offers amenities such as Wi-Fi, cable TV, a seasonal pool, and a Kamping Kitchen . One highlight was the Cowboy Cookout Café, where we enjoyed a hearty breakfast and dinner. The staff was friendly and helpful, contributing to a pleasant stay. While the proximity to the interstate means there's some road noise, it didn't detract significantly from our experience. Overall, this KOA provided a restful stop with convenient access to local attractions. We'd recommend it to fellow travelers looking for a reliable place to stay in the area. #straycompasslife #fulltimervlife #rvlifestyle #rvliving #rvtravel #rvadventure #nomadlife #homeiswhereyouparkit #holbrookaz #petrifiedforestnationalpark #koacampground

Amazing how one site can ruin the whole cg. They allow dogs to bark ALL day. No respect of others, management obvious doesn't care, guess cause they season camp there.
