Manatee Public Beach, located on Anna Maria Island in Florida, is a highly popular and well-equipped beach destination. It’s known for its wide stretch of soft, white sand and calm, clear, turquoise water, making it an ideal spot for families and visitors of all ages. Overall Experience
The vibe at Manatee Public Beach is relaxed and family-friendly. It's not a secluded, quiet beach, but rather a bustling hub of activity with plenty of amenities to keep everyone comfortable and entertained. The beach is patrolled by certified lifeguards year-round, which adds a layer of safety and peace of mind for parents with children. Amenities and Activities
One of the biggest draws of Manatee Public Beach is the sheer number of facilities available right on-site. You'll find:
Free Parking A large, free parking lot is a huge plus, though it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and during peak season. Arriving early is highly recommended. The Anna Maria Island Beach Café This café is a major convenience, offering a variety of food, drinks, and even a full-service bar. They are famous for their all-you-can-eat pancakes and often have live music, creating a lively atmosphere. Rentals You don't need to haul all your gear. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and even cabanas are available for rent at reasonable rates. Recreation The beach features sand volleyball courts and a playground for kids, making it easy to stay active. Facilities Clean and well-maintained restrooms, outdoor showers, and changing areas are all available. There are also picnic tables, grills, and bike racks. Accessibility The beach is wheelchair accessible, with ramps and even a free-to-use beach wheelchair available at the café.
Best Time to Visit
To avoid the biggest crowds, consider visiting on a weekday or during the early morning or late afternoon. The spring and fall months are also great times to visit, as the weather is pleasant and there are fewer people compared to the busy summer season.
While the name might suggest otherwise, don't expect to see manatees right from the shore. They typically seek warmer waters in natural springs during the winter months (November to March). To see them, you're better off booking a tour or visiting a specific manatee viewing center.

Read moreAnna Maria== the place to be!!
I’ve mentioned in some of my other reviews, I absolutely love the island of Anna Maria, it’s fantastic!! But for some reason, I’ve hardly been to Manatee Beach on AMI, which is odd for anyone who knows the area because it’s the main and largest public beach there. I prefer Bean Point, which is the north tip of the island and far less busy.
But Manatee Beach is no slouch, in fact, it’s completely amazing in its own respect. Soft and delicious white sand, miles of beach, and the most insanely clear blue/green/turquoise water: the beach of any sane persons’ dreams!
You can find some good shells if you have the right eye, I found a whole sand dollar on my last visit. There’s also a lovely sand bar to swim out to, it’s a good distance but not too crazy far. Though I’d be wary of going out because in my last visit, I had the craziest, most unforgettable experience: a great white shark (a good 12 footer, no baby shark) waltzed into the sandbar chasing after a tarpon, which he did eventually catch and make a big bloody mess of. It was so cool but equally frightening.
But hey, a beach is a piece of nature so you have to watch out for the locals of the sea anytime you go to any sort of beach. And since Manatee is a large public beach they do have lifeguards who look out for that sort of thing and warn you (like they did with the shark).
Manatee does have a large cafe/restaurant/gift shop/ bathrooms building right on the beach too. There’s changing stalls and rinse stations and a very large and FREE parking lot. Also trolleys that take you to various spots around the island. All very convenient- just keep an eye out for those...
Read moreParadise and ya don't have to leave the United States! I've been living here 2yrs now and from Google research I found AMI and I was blown away the first time I seen the public beach. The water is a beautiful blue and the white sands. They have shops with supplies and food nearby also a nice little beach bar. Went 3x first year in this past March family came to visit and we got a condo here. This i highly recommend to anyone who can or even find people to chip in for a condo and spend the week or more and explore all AMI has to offer. They have a little village with shops and restaurants, a large beautiful fishing pier at end of village with a pretty decent restaurant. Take a trip off the grid to Robinsons Preservation and kayak. If you venture down away from public beach there is another beach bar/restaurant on beach with parking across the street next to a fabulous and decent priced gift shop for souvenirs. If your planing a non themed park vacation the this is the place to start looking. Thanks for the read and hope you have the chance to experience and explore Anna...
