I Googled, I DuckDuckGoed and yes, I even BINGed for the cheapest food in Waikiki. After reviewing the results and working with some of the best scientists I could find on the island, I set out on my journey to sample the various foods.
Time after time I was disappointed. Mediocre food at outrageous prices was all I found. I even walked by a Subway and saw Jared, yes thee Jared, storm out ranting about the high prices - and he eats there for free people!
I burned through sneakers, canceled dates, stopped calling my family, and gave up so much more in search of a cheap and great meal. But like so many things in life, you don't find what you are looking for until you stop looking and why should food be excused from the life's wisdom?
I gave up and stumbled into an ABC Store in need of electrolytes from the dehydrating sun. I was going to settle for a Snickers and Gatorade to end my disappointing day. But then, it emerged. From the depths of the store, I saw it. I didn't know what to do. Did I go up to it? Do I wait for it to come over to me? "This is silly" I thought. If I didn't make a move, it would never happen.
So, I hastily walked over and opened the door to the inside of the heating unit which contained the treasure. "This could be it" I murmured. My Oasis in a desert. I pulled the sandwich out and this silky label greeted my eyes, "Seaweed wrap garlic chicken. $3"
I couldn't believe it. I asked the cashier how much $3 Hawaiian was worth in American and to my surprise, it was a 1:1 exchange. A true sign that I was destined for this sandwich. I unwrapped it like I was searching for a Golden Ticket. Then, I took a bite. It was everything I dreamed about. A cheap fulfilling sandwich in Waikiki.
Some go there entire life without seeing a unicorn but not me. I found my unicorn.

Read moreI was walking in to buy coffee ice cream which you were out for the past few weeks. Then instead of buying it I gotten potato salad and one of your mangers walked up and proceeded to look into my bag without my permission or knowledge then escalating me out of the store I have been and returning customers have lived in Waikiki for over ten years. I feel as if this manager was racially profiling me for not looking the part, what I mean by that I didn't look like a tourist that has some money, or I was a white person ripping off the ABC store. I have never felt more insulted in my life I love for corporate office to get a hold of me. Worst ABC store...
Read moreMy local ABC store for my trip to Hawaii and since I used to live on Oahu, let me say, oh ABC store and staff, how I missed you! This is a large one with everything you need for your vacation from beach clothes, mats and towels, to all sorts of snacks and reef shoes, which I need for the water in Waikiki as it does have rocks amidst the sand that hurts my soft (now mainlander) feet. I'm sure I will go here any number of times during my stay and so nice to have the perfect place for almost anything you need, around the block, for about anywhere you are staying...
