RoseMary’s Hair Shoppe — Local services in Honolulu

I was visiting and needed a local salon to do a hair updo for a photoshoot. I saw RoseMary’s as an option and decided to give her a call 2 weeks out to see if she had availability Saturday morning. Luckily there was a spot 8am!

Morning of Saturday, RoseMary was there bright and early and ready to see what I had in mind. I showed her a few inspo pictures but also was open to her taking the lead on her creative side when it came to braids and placement of hair. The end result was perfect - the plumeria she added as a finishing touch to the updo really made it extra special and the volume made it look like I had more hair! Her years of experience and personable spirit truly made me feel welcome and loved how my hair turned out. The next day at church I got a few compliments on my hair as well! Felt like a lady haha

Absolutely horrifying!! Zero stars for this money hungry place. Walked in. Asked Rose Mary (owner) herself how much top highlights and cut would cost for medium hair. She said $50 for highlights and $40 for cut. Her helper Daniel did my hair. He hurriedly blotted some highlights in my hair put me under a dryer and jumped on the next customer that came in. I had to remind him I was there. 40 min later he removed the foil , washed my hair and started to dry it. I noticed the roots were not touched at all.

He then blotted more highlights and put me under the dryer again. 30 min later we repeated the process and all the highlights were still uneven. He then took 5 mins to cut my hair and started to blow dry it with a square comb. I asked if he could use a round brush to add some volume he said it would be an extra charge and had the audacity to say that Rose Mary had undercharged me for services. I was bummed. He didn’t even put a toner to even out the highlights. I look like a clown after putting $100 down.

My mom decided to get a trim while on vacation and I'm assuming it was Rosemary that cut her hair. She told her she was going to blend it in and my mom called me upset after she left. I'm a cosmetologist myself and got a comb and inspected it when she got home and all I can say is I don't think she has any idea how to cut hair. It was uneven all over and it's pretty much a men's cut. I am so upset for my mom because it's so awful and there is nothing we can do but let it grow before it can be fixed. Not only is the cut atrocious, she charged her $45 which is just insane for such a terrible mess of a haircut. I'm mad because it's so awful and because my poor mom doesn't even want to leave the house because of it.
