Overall, I’m happy with BeFit. The monthly fee is very reasonable for the area and the equipment you get. Great value. No issues with the members—it’s a good, focused crowd. But I’m writing this in hopes that management reads it and maybe makes a few changes that others may quietly agree with.
Let’s talk about the music. I’ve got to say it: the music selection is rough. It’s almost exclusively mumble rap now, and the volume has gradually crept up over the years. I’m guessing front desk staff control it, but it feels like the playlist went from "mixed but tolerable" to "only one genre, max volume, all day."
Before the 2022 relocation, you’d occasionally get some heavy metal or EDM in the mix—still mostly rap/hip hop, but there was variety. Now? It’s a loop of bass-heavy, lyric-light tracks that drown out whatever you're trying to listen to in your headphones—unless you're cranking it to 100%.
And it’s not just the music choice—it’s the speaker setup. The main free weight area is huge (~5,200 sq ft), but it only has two speakers mounted on one wall. So the volume has to be jacked up just to reach the center of the room. The result? If you're lifting on the right or left ends of the gym (hello, Smith machine users), the speakers are basically yelling in your ear.
In the machine section, it’s a bit more hit-or-miss depending on where you are. Some ceiling-mounted speakers point straight down, so you're either fine or stuck under the rap cloud for a couple sets.
Also, the shirt policy… Technically there is one, but it's more of a "strong suggestion." There’s always some newcomer debuting in the Nipple Showcase section. It’s like a chest pump convention on display. It’s not the worst thing in the world (maybe I’d join if I weren’t built like a bag of hangers), but hey—a little consistency wouldn’t hurt.
Minor weights rant: Ever try finding a set of 10s? It’s like a scavenger hunt. They’re always buried behind the mysterious 35 lb dumbbells—seriously, who uses those? I feel like 35s exist solely to hide the 10s and confuse the 25s into an identity crisis.
The good stuff:
No-AC zone is a personal favorite—sweaty, gritty, and feels old-school.
Plenty of benches in the dumbbell area.
Maintenance is on point—if something breaks, it usually gets fixed fast.
The price for what you get is honestly hard to beat in this area.
In short, it’s a solid gym with a great setup and value—but please, please revisit the music situation. If most people are wearing headphones, that might be a sign to turn it down or mix it up....
Read moreI hadn't lifted weights in about 6 years, and I started looking for gyms close by.
I live in the greater east end, and it seemed like every time I did a search it was 24 hour fitness, or one of a million cross fit gyms.
One of the lone real gyms that popped up with Be Fit Gym. I read reviews, I looked at videos, I looked at pictures, and I decided to let the fact that they didn't have AC or heat not deter me.
The aesthetic of the gym is gritty. It's a big warehouse with all the equipment you need. And they play loud music that would never be heard in a gym like LA fitness or 24 hour fitness.
So, one day, I drove up, and even half expected it to be full of pissed off looking muscle heads who would eyeball anyone new that showed up.
What I found was, a staff that was super friendly and no where near pretentious. The people working out were serious about lifting, but not jerky body builder types.
It was summer and the gym had all the doors open and huge fans blowing, and there was a constant breeze.
Rap music and techno, was playing from huge speakers, loud enough to replace your headphones, but not loud enough to intrude into any conversation.
The clientele seemed upscale but down to earth at the same time.
So, I and a friend who went with me, decided to join.
Over the 5 months that I've worked out there, I noticed a few surprising things.
The owners actually remember your name. This place is their passion. One day Edgar, the owner walked on a treadmill next to me, and we just chatted for 30 minutes about the gym, where he came from, how excited he is about it, and some of his future plans.
People smile, wave, and even have conversations with you, but at the same time, they don't intrude.
With all the music, the warehouse feel, the graffiti on the wall, and the concrete floors, this gym makes you feel like you're not faking anything. You feel stronger, and more motivated and even elevated compared to people who go to the big box gyms.
And with all of that, you develop this sense of simply wanting to be there. It becomes less about forcing yourself to get that work out in, and more about wanting to go to a place that lets you escape and lets you see people you like, and lets you work on yourself.
There is a level of seriousness at this gym that serves to motivate without being competitive. Because in the end, really all there is to compete with is yourself, and this gym creates the perfect...

This locally owned gym has become my sanctuary for all things fitness while here in Houston. A respectable playground of equipment that caters to every exercise style, their inventory is vast and reasonably well-maintained. The gym's unique trifecta of climate options - refreshing air conditioning, invigorating open air, or the empowering challenge of the outdoors - lets me customize my workout experience each day.
The atmosphere is lively, charged by a soundtrack of motivating beats that always seems to hit the right note for pushing my limits. Price-wise, the value on offer is simply unmatched.
The gym's clientele is diverse and committed, providing a great environment to focus yet see a friendly smile. A positive, focused vibe fills the space, making every session enjoyable.
However, there's a bit of room for improvement. The lack of towels and combo lockers is a downside and the bathroom amenities could use an upgrade.
Despite these minor hiccups, I'd highly recommend this gym to anyone within a 15-minute radius seeking a dynamic and fulfilling workout experience. With the awesome vibes and excellent resources, it's a definite 4 out of 5 stars in my book....
