If you’re in the market for a pair of roller skates that’ll make you feel like you’re floating down the sidewalk on clouds of coolness, Back Beat Skates is the place. And meeting Shannon, the skate genius behind it all, was like a match made in roller-skate heaven. I was introduced to Shannon by the fabulous Dirty Deborah Harry herself (yeah, that’s how you know it’s legit), and from the second I walked in, I felt like I’d found my new skate family.
Let’s talk about the VIP experience at Back Beat Skates: it’s like being invited to a skate secret society, where Shannon is the wise and quirky guru of everything custom and cool. She guided me through the maze of high-end Riedell boots, helping me try on styles I didn’t even know existed. She measured every millimeter of my feet and arches, making sure I’d be rolling with comfort and flair. And I mean, she wasn’t just handing me options—she was letting me try them on, spin around, and genuinely see what would fit like a glove. I felt like a skate celebrity.
Then came the customization… Oh, the options! Shannon showed me every color, fabric, and texture I could imagine (and some I’d never thought of). The best part? She let me take my sweet time deciding. She gets it—you don’t just choose a skate combo lightly! You want a look that says, "I’m here to roll, and I look amazing doing it." Shannon’s patience and humor made the whole process fun, and I ended up with a custom color scheme that’s probably going to stop traffic (in the best way possible).
Once we had the boots down, we moved on to the plates, wheels, and laces—basically everything that’ll keep me gliding and grooving. Shannon knows her stuff and explained every option with such passion, I felt like I was getting a mini degree in skateology. It’s not just about looks at Back Beat Skates; it’s about crafting a pair of skates that feels like an extension of you. Shannon doesn’t rush, doesn’t push, and never skimps on quality or care.
So, if you’re looking for custom Riedell skates that scream "me" (not to mention a genuinely fun, unforgettable experience), get to Back Beat Skates. Shannon will hook you up with the dreamiest pair of skates you’ll ever own. Just be prepared for everyone at the rink (and on the street) to want to know where...
Read moreHere’s an in-depth, total overview of my experience with Back Beat Skates. I’ve been roller skating since the age of 4 and I’ve skated on dozens of different boots, plates, and wheels throughout my personal and professional skating career. Some of the hardest things to figure out when you’re looking for a new pair of skates are, which model and size of boot do I want, how are plates similar and different regarding how they function on the skates, which type of wheels do I need, and can I actually try them on to see how they feel on my feet? Well, luckily Shannon at Back Beat Skates has a solution for all of those questions. I had been skating on Riedell boots and Snyder plates for decades and I was quite happy with them but something strange happened. Although I’m a fully grown man now, my feet grew and that forced me to need new skates. This time however, I wanted to change my Riedell 297 boots and try a new Riedell 336 boot with a Roll-Line Dance Plate. I also wanted to try the Roll-Line Panther 57MM, 95A Artistic wheels. I communicated with Back Beat Skates and they ordered the Roll-Line Dance Plate for me in my size so that I could visit the shop and inspect them. I took my Riedell 336 boots to them and they had the plates mounted for me. Shannon was also super nice and offered to let me borrow her personal pair of Panther wheels to try out. How cool was that! Once the plates were mounted to the boots and the wheels were attached, I finally had the opportunity to skate on them, and guess what, I love the complete set-up, the boots, the plates, and the wheels. They roll smoothly and are well balanced and stable. The service that I received from Back Beat Skates was superb. Oh yeah, they also have an awesome, beautiful studio with a smooth wood floor and mirrors at their location. I also used the studio to test out my skates. Lastly, just for fun, I tried on a Riedell 3200 boot in my size while I was there. My overall experience with Back Beat Skates was superb and I definitely recommend that you give them an opportunity to assist you with your rollerskating needs. I hope that this review helps you....
Read moreShannon has really created such a wonderful space with Back Beat. I've attended multiple workshops in the practice space where I've been able to learn so much and sharpen my skills. Everyone who attends is always SO friendly and welcoming.
Aside from all of the workshops, I had the chance to go through the custom skate ordering process with Shannon. I went in with an open mind, not sure exactly what model of Riedells I'd need or even want. Shannon was able to guide me through the whole process and get me exactly the type of skate I'd need for my skating journey. We selected the color, design, plate and wheels to my exact needs. Shannon kept me updated through the manufacturing process and was super communicative and knowledgable about Riedell's process. I had never gone through that process before so it was comforting to know I was in good hands. My skates turned out better than expected. I love them SO much. I really appreciate Shannon for taking the time to really understand my needs and work with me on my order to get a skate that I would be able to love for years.
Back Beat Skates is truly a skater sanctuary and I HIGHLY recommend paying a visit for a workshop, a lesson, practice or even...
