Landing in London When they next wake, the plane is starting to land at Heathrow Airport, and the girls can barely contain their excitement. Their first taste of England is at customs, where Yui accidentally mispronounces 'sightseeing' as 'side business' when asked about the purpose of the trip. After passing customs, they pick up their luggage and are reunited with their instruments. All except for Mio, who's standing nervously at the empty carousel, thinking her luggage has gone missing. But it turns out that someone had just taken it off the carousel and put it aside. Leaving the airport, they are met with London's characteristic freezing weather.
Arrival at London The girls arrive in London. The most appropriate way to leave the airport is in one of London's world-famous taxis. Yui experiences her first cultural blunder, trying to find the door handle on the wrong side of the door. The taxi driver is nice enough to open the door for them, before asking where the girls are going. Azusa says that their first destination is to their hotel. Since that hotel chain has many locations in the city, the driver asks for them to specify which one they mean. Ritsu boldly assumes that it's the one in London, not actually knowing that there are many districts within London with hotels of that same name. The driver gives one last confirmation that they're going to London City, that is, to the heart of the city. On the way, they soak in the sights of the city, pumping themselves up for the next few days.
Sitting backwards for the whole taxi ride, Yui's feeling a little motion sick, so when the group gets to the hotel, they let her sit down for a while in the lobby. Meanwhile, Tsumugi and Azusa have run into a problem at the reception - they don't have a reservation at this particular hotel, rather at one of the other hotel's chains at Earls Court. It's too far to walk, but they can't take the taxi again, or Yui will feel even worse. Yui wants to take one of London's famous double-decker buses, but without a direct route, they'd need to change lines a couple of times. They figure the best way to get to their hotel is by the London Underground.
Down in the tube, Yui sensed that Azusa was a bit uncomfortable. Her feet had gotten sore, walking around all day in new shoes. So before they get to the hotel, they buy Azusa a new pair of shoes from a rock apparel store. Upon leaving the store, they spot a Kaiten Sushi restaurant.
An impromptu performance Ritsu is keen to see how London's sushi compares to back home, so they walk into the restaurant with her. It's a very classy, modern establishment with rich, red, wood-paneled walls, and enough space for a small stage. Remembering her blunder at the baggage carousel, Mio freezes up at the sight of the sushi train. As they try to explore a bit more, Yui bumps into the restaurant's manager. He asks if they 'are the ones from Japan', but Yui can only make out the words 'from' and 'Japan'. Not completely sure of what's happening, Yui mutters out a 'yes'. The manager then confirms that Yui and her friends are the ones to perform at the bar tonight, to which Yui, who is still utterly confused, says yes to.
As they are led to the stage, the staff take them their instruments, give them happi to wear and help them set up. It's only when they're presented with the stage, now ready, do they realize what's happening - they have to perform. Tsumugi goes up to confront the staff, presumably to clear up all confusion, but when Ritsu and Yui see the staff bring on a keyboard, they figure that Tsumugi is actually keen to perform. Ritsu is next to confront the manager, except he can't understand her broken English, interspersed with Japanese. Exasperated, the girls resign themselves to perform, thinking that it must be some twisted requirement of the restaurant to perform before being allowed to be...
Read moreReally did not want to write this review but it's been weighing heavy on my heart and feel I need to. I want to make sure other people don't experience the same things I and the people in my party went through. We were celebrating my fiancés birthday party this last Sunday during the Oktoberfest. We were having a blast and food and atmosphere was great. When I went to the bar that serves hard alcohol and beer in the outside patio I ordered a beer for myself my fiancé already had a drink back at our table the bartender asked us if we would like a to try a "SAMPLE" of the peach schnapps and my natural reaction was oh wow thank you sure. Bartender poured out two shots and got me my beer. He charged me 48 dollars. I got sticker shock from the price. I told him whoa that a bit much for a beer did you charge the shots I thought you said they were "samples". His response was oh no I never said that I asked if you wanted to have a shot of the peach schnapps. I was really flustered and stood my ground and said no you clearly said would you like to try a sample of the peach schnapps. There were two ladies close by that overheard me and approached us and said yeah he did the same thing to us too, we ordered 2 beers and he charged us 68 dollars Bartender started to look nervous and began apologizing he said I'm sorry for the misunderstanding I thought I was clear and the two ladies said no that's very misleading. There was a long line behind me and I was so bothered by it I just paid. I did not go back to that outside patio bar, there were multiple stands and two other inside bars where they were not pulling this trick and serving drinks. I was little embarrassed by what had happened so I did not bring it up right away. I mentioned it later to my group and come to find out it happened to three other people in my group. At this point I was very upset and asked to speak to a manager the security guard directed me to a guy named Ron and when I told Ron what was going on he said he would look into it. He later approached me and said I apologize for the misunderstanding. I said said it's not a misunderstanding it's a very underhanded way to make extra money for the bar. Most people when you tell them "would you like to try a sample of blank" don't think they will be charged for it so it's very sneaky. Then when confronted about the high tab denying they used the word sample is even worse. He said he would credit me back in my card and return the price I was charged for the two shots. When I said it happened to three other people in my group he said sorry there's no way for me to track all the purchases. Told him that's bad business to do these underhanded tricks. Beers are already expensive here as it is over 20 bucks for just one. Please people if you go don't try the samples at the bar and if you do ask if you'll be charged for them.
Still haven't received the credit back on the debit...
Read moreI'm sure this place is nice on a regular day, but I went on Oktoberfest. The security guards are too extreme. They had me unbutton my flannel twice while waiting in line to go in because they thought I was smuggling things inside and some talk to you like if you're already doing something wrong. You wont be able to enjoy your food because everyone prefers to drink while seated instead of being courteous for those with food on a tray so you will have to eat standing. The security had my cousin remove her tray from the edge of a counter while she was eating because it was apart of a bar. I've gone to other places that let you enjoy your meal in front of the bar, but not this place. She wasn't blocking anyone from approaching the counter by the way.
I was only there for less then an hour. I finished my food standing and bought my first beer when the lights went out. I was about to start enjoying the festival until transformers started blowing up and huge balls of fire blasted up in the air. There was three explosions which terrified a lot of people and caused a panic. Many people got pushed and shoved because of this and a couple people were severely burned.
This day was a disaster. I checked their website to find out any information. It showed that the people who purchased their tickets for the following day can hold them for another day, but there was nothing showing for those that were there when the explosions happened. I contacted old world through email a couple times and I haven't received any reply.
I do know that there is a no refund policy on the site that the tickets were purchased. The thing is that they allowed other people from the following day to use their tickets for next weekend, but the ones that paid for that specific date was only given the opportunity to be apart of a disaster that ruined the entire night. Then, I had to finish my beer outside because the place was evacuated. An employee approached me and told me to get rid of the beer because they dont want to loose their license, but I was only holding an empty cup because I already knew I shouldn't be drinking in public and finished my beer quickly without being able to enjoy it.
Like I said, it would of been a good experience, but the disaster and the lack of communication to the ones that were there is making me give them 1 star and I wont be going back again. I lost over a hundred dollars that was spent here for less than an hour full of...
