I love the long winding walk along the down town canal. One thing is missing. When the walk is featured, ideas for where to park should also be included. After visiting several times, I choose to pay a small fee and park at the State Museum underground parking lot. There are surface places to park. I would ask Google to help you find parking. There are gondolas and paddle boats to rent by the hour. Enjoy them. The Eiteljorg has a pleasant garden area to purchase food. The History Musuem also has an area to purchase food and tables outside facing the Canal. When activities return after Covid, Jazz concerts will return on summer evenings. Once again check Google for updates. The most frequent walkers were whole families visiting our city and parties gathering for small celebrations. Please take time to walk the State Museum walls. Each of our counties is featured for its contribution to our Indiana history and greatness. Each time you return you will find something to help you feel grateful that this Indianapolis city has a place where the past and the present are on display to...
Read moreThe Indianapolis Canal Walk is a scenic and historic 3-mile promenade in downtown Indianapolis, offering a peaceful retreat amidst the city's hustle and bustle. Originally constructed in the 1800s as part of the Indiana Central Canal project, it has been revitalized into a vibrant urban space featuring pedestrian paths, cultural landmarks, and recreational activities. The canal offers opportunities for paddle boating and gondola rides, providing unique ways to explore the area. Additionally, the nearby Colts Canal Playspace offers a playground for children, making it a family-friendly destination. The Canal Walk is open year-round and is especially enjoyable during spring and summer months when the weather is pleasant, and the surrounding flora is in full bloom. It's easily accessible and connects with other trails like the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, offering extended...
Read moreOMG people. This park is long overdue. But who thought it was a good idea to build a new park and NOT have a restroom, whole in the ground or something for our kids to use. Come on people......dang. But.....it is nice. Bright colors, close to decent parking and in the middle of the canal (or at least it seems like it. Lol). Lots of climbing stuff. At times it seemed like it was for youth over 4 or 5 as a lot of things were hard to climb and you needed more big motor skills. My 3 year old nephew mostly ran around and I had to help him on most things. He had fun though. I even got stuck on something......I feel the judgement......stop. Lol There is this big slide that seems fun but seems to be needing another rope line to help kids climb up. I am very thankful for this wonderful park but a major problem for me is not having a...
