This preserve runs along the interstate, so the ambiance is a little different at first, but I found that the noise of the cars just becomes the background noise, I didn't find it overwhelming or distracting at all.
The trails were great! There are trails that are definitely more ideal for people biking. I walked along them, foot traffic is fine on those trails as well. Just be alert for the bikes. Hiking those with little kids or dogs would be difficult bc of getting out of the way quickly without stress. But there are also larger trails that are mowed down paths, so very wide, and a more straightforward path. Plenty of views of the water, very beautiful. Trails were clean, there's trash closer to the water from the flooding that is natural to the landscape, but other than that, everything was clean and the parking lot was big and accessible.
I saw birds even on this cold day, my binoculars were very handy. Cute place, looks well taken care of. Amazing little nature gem tucked alongside a major roadway; absolutely worth a check out.
To access part of the preserve, there's a creek or a stream depending on how dry it's been. No way across without submerging some parts of shoes into water. Plenty to explore without having to cross, but a lot more on the other side, and it pushes further in away from the interstate. Cool picnic energy I feel like.
Also there's a cool citizen science project they have going on, it's very easy to do, it's right along the trail and explains how to add your own data...
Read moreInteresting preserve situated in the middle of 465, the fashion mall commercial area and the white river. You can walk all the dirt trails with the preserve in about an hour or so. The trails are definitely more for bikes so beware for bikers, however, it was a pleasant easy and safe walk. Going across the initial stream to the prairie portion was a bit difficult since we didn’t want to get our shoes wet but with some courage and thoughtful foot placement, you’ll be ok if you don’t have mobility needs. This area is technically the south loop of Town Run Park. We enjoyed the fresh air and spotting a huge eagles nest along the white river. If you go under the interstate, you’ll run into the north portion of Town Run Park. Great way to extend your walk, run+ Beware the parking area is open during light hours and the gates will close you in when the park closes- It took us a second to figure it out lol but one of the gates had a motion sensor and will open up for you. Plenty of gravel parking. Only one other car there on a...
Read moreA gem of a park. No, there is no sign on the road, but follow the GPS directions and it should direct you properly.
The kayak launch is a great spot for a folding chair and some silent prayer. Very peaceful by the water. Didn't get any bug bites either even while being still.
Easy walking trails with multiple QR-code links to interpretive articles about the biology and anthropology of the area.
Adjacent to an off road bike trail which can be reached by walking or biking from Oliver's Woods.
