So this is our second visit to The District Tap. Quite honestly, the first visit was unexpectedly bad. Food was ok but the service was way off... we had to ask for menus, ask for someone to take our order, and our server never came back to check on us. That visit took over two hours after seating and it wasn't busy.
That was awhile ago, so we decided to try again.
This second visit was much better, so that's all I'll say about our first visit. Here's what happened today:
First the food... 5 star visit! Our table ordered Fish and Chips, District Mac with Grilled Chicken, and a Beef on Weck. The Fish is deep fried Salmon... I sampled a bite and it was really good - surprisingly so. Generally I only eat broiled/baked or pan fried salmon but I might order that on a future visit because it was perfectly done. The fries (chips) were lightly seasoned, and it came with Asian slaw (this version is basic cole slaw without the creamy slaw dressing and cilantro added). Fortunately my wife ordered the Fish and Chips so I got to sample all of it. I was genuinely surprised how well Fish and Chips with battered, deep fried salmon came together as a dinner. I didn't taste the District Mac with Grilled Chicken, but it looked great and the person who ordered it thought it was quite tasty.
I ordered a Beef on Weck, horseradish on the side, with a side of creamy cole slaw. It's been quite awhile (a few decades?!) since I had a Weck roll, and this one wasn't exactly as I remember it, but it was still great. The Shredded ribeye and flavorful au jus were just about perfect. Nice balance of salt and seeds on the Weck, soft inside and a good amount of beef made this one of the best sandwiches I've had in recent history.
Our server today was easy to talk to, checked in on us a few times, got our orders right and we were served our food within 25 minutes of ordering. So all good there.
I didn't order any alcohol but with a name like District Tap, they have a lot of choices. Check out my picture of the bar if you're interested.
In warm weather they open up the front of the restaurant which looks like a fun...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was recommended to me by my sister, she had never visited this location but frequents their location on Meridian St with high remarks! The food was good but the service was extremely slow and poor. Fifteen minutes after being seated we were asked drink orders, which then took another fifteen plus to be brought to our table. Once we got drinks twenty more minutes went by before we got our drinks and got to put in an app order of: Fried Pickles, (plus our kids meal since we did not want my son to wait much longer.). Our app arrived, it was hot and the pickles were delicious with tangy horseradish sauce. The kids meal arrived a good while after with the server to take our meal order. After we ordered the food did not hesitate to arrive. The burger was slightly undercooked to our asking but the fries, Mac and cheese, and salad are awesome. Unfortunately we waited over an HOUR after this to even get refills on our empty drinks, the server checked on us once. He seemed rushed, and our surrounding tables were also upset... they were not busy and to our knowledge they were staffed. ( Bar staff was playing on their phones. Not to mention all the other staff we watched come out and converse with one another, and look around at the drinking room and disappear.). We were done eating about 25 mins after our food arrived and were beyond disappointed with the wait, not on the food but the service. We needed to walk up to the bar to ask for boxes and checks. Our card had sat on the edge of the table with all out our plates and cups stacked up since we had finished eating. We STILL had to wait for the server since we had to pay out with him! I would not recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe District Tap is a very nice bar located at Meridian St. and Georgia St. in downtown Indianapolis. We met family and friends (8 of us total) for Saturday Brunch/Lunch before the preseason Colts game. We were there from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The beer and drink selection, especially the beers on tap, is excellent. The food leaves much to be desired from what was served to us. The pizza and salads were very good. The burgers and fries were ok, with a good burger but less that good fries. The Bruch items were not good at all! I had the country fried steak. It was severely over cooked. The gravy was very thick and gummy, looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for a while. I asked for the hashbrown to be crispy, and they were definitely NOT crispy and good at all. They looked and tasted like they had been tossed on the grill, flipped, and served in under a minute. They were more like raw shredded potatoes. The scrambled eggs were not cooked fresh and looked and tasted like they were scooped out of a pan where the eggs were cooked and placed to be served later. The chicken tenders were mediocre at best again looked and tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. The Cobb Salad, Buffalo Chicken Salad, and Ahi Tuna plate were very good. All the fries served were limp, greasy and did not look or taste appetizing at all. Most were left untouched on the plate due to not being good at all. Overall, The District Tap is a great place to visit and have drinks. I know I will visit it to order any food other than a salad from now on. Many establishments in Downtown Indianapolis have much better food that I will be visiting...
